What Nuclear Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health

Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers.

Nuclear Pharmacy is responsible for providing radiopharmaceuticals and other drugs to medical care providers under highly regulated State and Federal guidelines; may also consult with or advise physicians and nuclear medicine technologists on the safe and efficacious use of radioactive drugs for diagnosis and therapy. Licensed.

The Manager, Nuclear Pharmacy oversees one of Cardinal Health’s nuclear pharmacies to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations and timely, quality delivery of radiopharmaceuticals to customers. This job’s successful management of the nuclear pharmacy drives the business units’ operating margins and earnings. With expert knowledge of the local market, the Manager provides input into short- to mid-term commercial strategy and, through strong customer service and relationships, builds the foundation for the long-term growth of the business unit.

Responsibilities

Drives operational efficiency by directing the nuclear pharmacy’s adherence to the business unit’s standard operating procedures. Implements operational changes cascaded from business unit leaders and shares local best practices with Regional Directors and other Managers, Nuclear Pharmacy.Ensures that nuclear pharmacy operations are in line with business unit’s standard operating procedures in order to achieve compliance with national and state radiopharmaceutical regulations. Applies expert knowledge of state and regional regulations to mitigate any compliance risks and directs trainings for all employees in nuclear pharmacy. Serves as the Authorized User and Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) for the pharmacy.Oversees fleet logistics to deliver radiopharmaceuticals to customers, managing product decay and time sensitivity of delivery. Communicates with customers during material shortages, market disruptions, or other unforeseen circumstances to maintain business continuity and adapt customer commitments.Supervises teams of pharmaceutical professionals and fleet staff, including daily and nightly staffing, and champions a culture of compliance and high performance. Directs all people management processes for the nuclear pharmacy including recruitment, succession planning, talent management and development.Collaborates with Sales team to provide input into product commitments and pricing for customer agreements, within the pricing guidelines established by the business unit. Meets with customers to understand evolving needs.Manages an organizational budget and reports internally on the financial and operational performance of the nuclear pharmacy.

 

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy or PharmD requiredValid Pharmacist’s license in the state in which the pharmacy operates, or is in the process of obtaining a valid licenseMust complete at least 200 hours of academic training in a nuclear pharmacy through an accredited program8-12 years related pharmacy experience  preferredMinimum of 1 year of previous supervisory experience in a health care or pharmaceutical environment preferredAbility to work various shifts (overnights, days) weekends, holidays, on call as neededAbility to work in pharmacist rotation as neededAbility to develop, implement and lead all aspects of pharmacy operationAuthorized user preferredAbility to negotiate, influence, and resolve customer/employee problems or conflicts to meet the needs of external and internal customersAbility to be innovative in troubleshooting clinical/bio-distribution problemsMust demonstrate effective writing and verbal proficiency in internal and external communications and documentation procedures; presentation skillsAbility to promote teamwork within pharmacy location and region by treating staff members with respectMust fulfill a commitment to the professional ethics adopted by the pharmacy professionAbility to plan and implement plans effectively; make effective and timely decisions; and effectively manage a budget and administrative functionsManual dexterity; clear speech, general vision, hearingAbility to lift up to 55 lbsAbility to travel to regional meetings and to customer sites as neededValid driver's license and good driving record Comfortable working in a nuclear environmentComfortable with repetitive tasksAdvanced computer skills (Microsoft Office programs)
