Purpose: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for using radioactive isotopes to assist in diagnosis. Performs procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a Radiologist. Exercises professional judgement in patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures with A+ care for all patients. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties: + Provides information to diagnose patient illnesses by operating radiologic equipment to produce radiographs. + Preparing and administering radioactive drugs. + Capturing images that a physician will use to diagnose an infection or disorder + Limiting radiation exposure to the patient and staff members administering the test. + Identifies patient service requirements by establishing a personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements. + Prepares patient for procedures: providing instructions to obtain results and answers questions regarding risks and adverse reactions. + Verify patient identification by checking for correct patient information for procedure. + Complete patient information sheet to obtain history prior to exam. + Prepares and administers various forms of radioactive materials. + Administer intravenous injections. + Selects and operates nuclear medicine equipment. + Positions patients to best demonstrate area of interest. + Determines best technical factors for quality images. + Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self and others + Evaluates images for proper technique and assuring proper identification. + Addresses patient concerns. + Properly sends films to the PACS system, check, and present it to radiologist before patient dismissal. + Practice Universal Precautions. + Certified in basic CPR. + Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements, following manufacturer’s instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, calling for repairs, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques. + Maintains radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; and verifying receipt of supplies. + Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; and advising management on needed action + Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies + Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records + Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. + Supports and promotes the Mission, Vision, and Values; adheres to all hospital policies and procedures; commits to the Standards of Conduct; maintains professional appearance. + Other duties as assigned. Education: Graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college affiliated or hospital trained. Experience: Board eligible License, Certification and or Registrations: Certified by the state of Florida to practice and administer radiation. Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. Current BLS certification. Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Must have basic computer skills. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
