Job Title: Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technicians (Level 2 or 3) Location: On-site in Los Alamos, NM

Overview:
System One is seeking Nuclear & Hazardous Materials Technicians (Level 2 or 3) to support the Plutonium Capability Low Level Waste and WCRRF Operations Group (NPI-10) at Los Alamos National Laboratory. These roles support safe and compliant hazardous waste handling and transport at key LANL facilities, including TA-55, CMR, RLWTF, RLUOB, and WCRRF.
These are full-time, on-site positions with shift differential pay and long-term project stability.
Key Responsibilities (Level 2 & 3):Move, load, transport, and store hazardous materials and waste containers
Perform inspections and characterization of waste for safe handling and compliance
Operate forklifts and mechanical handling equipment
Maintain records of waste inventories, profiles, and shipping documentation
Ensure work meets safety, security, quality, and environmental standards
Level 3 Technicians additionally:
Work with minimal supervision on complex tasks
Serve as SME or point of contact for waste/material handling activities
Support process improvement and VI/VE repackaging tasks
Assist in technical investigations and reporting
Minimum Requirements:Tec 2:
High school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience
Basic knowledge of hazardous/radioactive waste handling
Forklift operation, characterization data review, and PPE usage
Ability to follow procedures and work in a team environment
Tec 3:
Associate’s degree and 3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent)
Advanced skills in hazardous materials handling and inspection
Experience with LANL programs, criticality safety, MC&A, and regulatory compliance
Comfortable working in radiological areas under minimal supervision
Preferred Qualifications:RADWORKER, HAZWOPER, RCRA certifications
Familiarity with LANL/NMED WAC, WCATS, LANMAS
Experience in nuclear safety, LLW, or regulated waste packaging
Site-specific training at TA-55, RLWTF, CMR, or WCRRF
Active Q clearance and HRP status
Essential Job Functions:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, stand/walk for long periods
Normal hearing and vision; typing/keyboarding
Safe work in hazardous and radiological environments
