The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department offers virtually every type of cardiac surgery. With a focus on advanced technology, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience while helping facilitate the best patient experience possible.

This position harnesses the skills of an experienced Surgery RN who recently retired but wants to transfer knowledge to newer nurses within the organization. The RN delivers professional nursing care in the operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or other invasive procedures. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days, 9:00am—5:30pm.   

 
A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Perform circulating functions including monitoring, recording and communicating patient condition and managing overall nursing care of patient before, during and after procedure. 

Prepare operating rooms and surgical instruments and equipment for use. 

Perform scrub functions including the selection and handling of instruments and supplies used during procedure. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing. 

Current licensure as Registered Nurse (RN). 

Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA). 

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)-- If performing moderate/procedural sedation. 

Three years of experience in an RN Surgery position at the Cleveland Clinic immediately prior to retirement. 

Demonstrated clinical competence. 

Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing).

Physical Requirements:

Requires standing and walking for periods of time.

May require full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Possible exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work – May include exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
