Join Cleveland Clinic’s Neurological Institute and grow into the nurse you were meant to be. The Cleveland Clinic Neurological Institute is entering an exciting new era, and we want you to be part of it. Our brand-new, one-million-square-foot, state-of-the-art Neurological Institute building, opening in early 2027, will redefine the patient and caregiver experience — bringing together every aspect of neurological care under one roof.
To expand our commitment to excellence in patient care and professional development, we’re proud to introduce the Neuro Critical Care Nurse Residency Program, designed specifically for recent nursing graduates (with less than 12 months of RN experience) who are ready to begin a rewarding career in neuro critical care.
A caregiver in this role will work three 12-hour shifts. We have positions available on straight day shift (7am-7:30pm), and straight night shift (7pm-7:30am).
About the Program
As a Neuro Critical Care Resident, you’ll experience an immersive, one-year program that blends intensive learning, mentorship, and hands-on experience across two specialized neuro units: the Neuro Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the Neuro Step-Down Unit.
You’ll rotate every three weeks between these units — spending time in the Neuro ICU caring for more acute, intubated patients, and in the Neuro Step-Down Unit managing high-acuity patients with EVDs and other complex needs. This structure gives you a strong foundation in neuro critical care while allowing you to build confidence, critical thinking and complex nursing skills.
Program Highlights:
A straight shift, with rotation between Neuro ICU and Neuro Step-Down units every three weeks.
Opportunities to strengthen your clinical judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
An assigned preceptor in each unit, along with dedicated mentors and success coaches.
Regular meetings with nursing leadership to review progress and provide feedback.
A dedicated neuro unit position upon successful completion of the residency.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Participate in a residency core curriculum based on individual learning needs.
Provide direct nursing care alongside a preceptor.
Establish and/or revise priorities for patient care (acuity of need, patient preference and resource availability).
Respond to data indicating risk to patients’ health and initiate action to correct, reduce or prevent risk.
Seek supervision, consultation and assistance when unable to perform safely and independently.
Document in patients’ medical records.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program)
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
New graduate RN OR less than one year of RN work experience
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)
