Job Summary
The Merchandise Leader – is responsible for assessing, teaching, and assisting the Assistant Club Managers of Merchandise (ACMM) for the new clubs that have already completed the 6-week hub club training program. This role supports the ACMM in new clubs to fully prepare them to lead their teams, drive member experience excellence, and uphold BJ’s operational, service, and compliance standards.
Working in close partnership with Club Managers, Regional Operations Leaders, HR Business Partners, and Corporate Training teams, the Trainer ensures a consistent and high-quality onboarding and development experience aligned with BJ’s business goals and cultural values.
Key Responsibilities
Training & Development
+ Deliver structured leadership training with direct emphasis in Merchandise Execution tailored to the ACMM role with role Specific training in merchandising, receiving, asset protection, inventory control and tire bay operations.
+ Facilitate in club training covering:
+ GOLD execution and member engagement
+ Compliance, safety, and audit preparedness
+ Talent management, coaching, and team development
+ Business analytics, scheduling, and labor optimization
+ Assist ACMs and CMs in key events from club turn over to grand open:
+ Supply receiving
+ Merchandise receiving
+ Department setup
+ Training of leads and team members
+ Assist with key tasks after Grand Opening
📈 Performance Coaching & Evaluation
+ Observe ACMM’s in action and provide targeted coaching aligned with KPIs and behavior expectations.
+ Track developmental milestones and certify readiness for Forklift operations and independent role execution.
+ Identify knowledge or skill gaps and deliver reinforcement training.
+ Prepare detailed progress assessments and provide feedback to New Club Talent Team Leader, Club Managers, appropriate Business Partners and Regional Ops.
Program Development & Improvement
+ Collaborate with Learning & Development, Asset Protection, Food /Safety and Field Ops to continuously improve the training curriculum.
+ Update training materials to reflect policy changes, new systems (e.g., Tableau, MY WORK), or best practices.
+ Share insights and feedback to influence broader training strategy and club leadership effectiveness.
Cross-Functional Partnership
+ Serve as a liaison between training, HR, compliance, and operations teams.
+ Model inclusive leadership, ethical decision-making, and high-performance culture.
+ Assist with new club openings, pilot programs, or underperforming market interventions as needed.
Leadership Responsibilities
+ Model BJ’s values and GOLD standards at all times.
+ Influence future leaders through mentorship and coaching.
+ Promote a growth mindset and continuous improvement culture.
+ Champion safety, service excellence, and operational discipline.
Qualifications
+ 5+ years of BJ’s or industry leadership experience, including multi-department or club-level oversight.
+ Deep expertise in club operations, member service, operational KPI’s shrink control, receiving process, merchandise transitions and leadership development.
+ Experience in delivering training or facilitating leadership workshops preferred.
+ Strong communication, presentation, and coaching skills.
+ High proficiency in Microsoft Office, MY WORK, Club Analytics, Tableau and performance reporting tools.
+ Current Safe Serve certification (must maintain in good standing).

Working Conditions
+ 100% travel weekly to clubs within the new club process is required.
+ On-the-floor leadership and training delivery in busy club environments.
+ May lift up to 30 lbs. and navigate temperature-varied areas.
+ Flexible availability across shifts, including early mornings and occasional weekends.
+ Occasional Weekly Travel to cover vacation weeks for others on New Club Talent Team hub club role.
In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $84,000.00.
