Responsibilities

Neurosurgery Specialist assists the neurosurgeons in the performance of any surgical procedure working under the surgeon's direction. The Neurosurgery Specialist has an understanding of human surgical anatomy, the associated policies, procedures, and workflows associated with the surgical environment, as well as proper use of stereotactic and image guided instruments and positioning of patients. Participates with surgeon during pre-operative planning and intra-operative implementation of image guided surgery. Monitors the technical portion of the procedure to ensure safety and effectiveness. The Neurosurgery Specialist will have the ability to anticipate the needs of the surgeon with respect to the requirements of a neurosurgical procedure.



Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in the sciences, healthcare, or biotechnical study plus 1 year of healthcare and/or biotechnical experience required. 

Additional training as a Surgical Technologist, Interventional Radiologist Technologist, MRI Technician, or equipment servicing of operating room /medical equipment is preferred. Familiarization of medical terminology, medical practices, and human anatomy is required. Ability to achieve and maintain attention to detail is required. Proficiency with Medtronic Stealth technology and Siemens imaging preferred. Previous experience in supporting image guided Operating Room procedures preferred.
Vendor education will be provided and must be successfully completed within 6 months of hire. Maintains the required vendor training. Basic Life Support certification is required upon hire and must be valid for 90 days or greater from start date. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency.

1 year biomedical engineering experience preferred.
