Network Development Enginner II, Operations Network Engineering (ONE) - Amazon Robotics
The Operations Network Engineering (ONE) team under Amazon Robotics is looking for a Network Development Engineer (NDE) to join our team. We build and operate the networks and services that enable Amazon Fulfillment Centers, Middle and Last Mile facilities, Air hubs, and PrimeNow to deliver packages to customers. From two-million-square-foot automated robotics fulfillment centers to small last-mile delivery stations in emerging markets, these networks are the backbone of Amazon Operations. Hundreds of thousands of associates rely on them across thousands of locations — they are critical to on-time delivery of every customer order.

Our mission is to design, deploy, and assist networks that set the global standard for performance, availability, security, and cost efficiency. We are looking for an NDE to create next-generation network products. The team is focused on automating networks from multiple diverse vendors, maximizing reliability while minimizing human touch in deployment and maintenance. We partner closely with IT support teams to ensure that simplicity in our product designs translates to maintainability in the field. Information security rigor is at the core of everything we do.

You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and work with multiple technical teams across Amazon. You should be comfortable with a high degree of ambiguity and relish solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. We expect you to be technically bold while remaining balanced and pragmatic in your approach.

The right candidate will have demonstrated experience leading large projects and an expert-level technical background in current networking technologies. You must thrive in an entrepreneurial environment — driving high-level strategic initiatives one day and rolling up your sleeves to get the job done the next. As an NDE, you will anticipate bottlenecks, influence external vendor and internal team roadmaps, provide escalation management, make tradeoffs, and balance business needs against technical constraints.

You'll solve problems at a scale few organizations encounter, and make a positive impact on millions of people.

Key job responsibilities
As an NDE, you will:
- Design and implement automation solutions for network deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management across diverse vendor platforms.
- Write code to solve complex operational problems, decomposing them into simple, maintainable solutions.
- Own the end-to-end delivery of network products, from requirements through design, implementation, testing, and production support.
- Comprehend system interdependencies and limitations, and design within those constraints while pushing boundaries where appropriate.
- Research and benchmark Amazon network technology against industry alternatives, identifying opportunities to improve performance, cost, or reliability.
- Partner with cross-functional teams (IT support, security, capacity planning) to ensure solutions are sustainable and secure at scale.
- Develop operational runbooks, monitoring, and tooling that reduce mean time to resolution and minimize manual intervention.

A day in the life
No two days look the same. You might start the morning reviewing deployment metrics from an overnight network automation campaign, then shift to debugging a configuration pipeline failure at a newly launched site. After lunch, you're in a design review for a next-generation network architecture, partnering with network operational vertical team. Later, you're writing Python to automate a workflow that currently requires an engineer to touch hundreds of devices individually.

You'll balance reactive operational work — troubleshooting issues, assisting lifecycle projects, unblocking deployments — with proactive engineering: building tools, improving automation coverage, and driving lifecycle programs that span months to years. Our organization assist multiple business units globally, from delivery stations in emerging markets to advanced automated fulfillment centers, so the variety of problems is broad and the scale is real.

This role will grow your skills as an engineer and give you lasting impact on Amazon's network infrastructure.

Amazon offers a full range of benefits that assist you and eligible family members, including domestic partners. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include:

1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options
3. Paid Time Off (PTO)
4. 401(k) Plan

If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you’re passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!

About the team
The ONE-Lifecycle team manages infrastructure lifecycle programs for 2,800 Amazon sites globally. We are seeking an NDE II to lead the engineering of our lifecycle programs and develop automated solutions for deployments across all Amazon site types and network stacks.

You will interface with operational networking vertical teams, Fulfillment customers, and Field IT teams. Your work will integrate into our network automation framework and configuration management tools. You will be empowered to leverage AI-powered tools for automation development and diagnostics.

You will drive operational excellence, participate in design reviews, and mentor team members. You will solve complex problems, make tradeoffs, and deliver measurable business impact across Amazon's operations through network infrastructure solutions.
