Job Description

We are seeking a Network Architect to join a pivotal Cyber engineering team responsible for building new security architectures across large Naval Submarine subsystems. This technology establishes a common, open-architecture system-of-systems electronic design aboard submarines to enhance interoperability during joint operations with integrated fighting forces. In essence, this system acts as the central nervous system of a submarine, connecting all other subsystems. The engineer will utilize their expertise to design the submarine's network system, creating a private cloud for edge communication.

ResponsibilitiesDesign and enhance computer network communications, including specifications and schematics for network architecture on multiple subsystems.Evaluate and recommend network hardware and software selections, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet tactical programmatic needs, considering present and future capacity requirements.Monitor and maintain networks, manage configurations, provide network support and problem resolution, analyze system performance and metrics, and conduct failure analysis on the SWFTS network for the SE&I program.Interface with customers, developers, and support programs to ensure optimal communication flow between subsystems.Conduct performance and failover testing of network devices and assess their impact on system stability.Maintain technical expertise in areas of network and computer hardware/software interconnection and interfaces, such as firewalls, routers, switches, gateways, middleware, and OSI layer 1/2/3/4 functionality.Evaluate and recommend new technologies to enhance network system performance and monitoring capabilities.Document network processes for working group presentations and exchanges.Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in IT or Engineering from an accredited college/university.8+ years of experience in Network Integration for various network protocol standards, including HSRP/VRRP, RIP, RSTP (802.1w), and MSTP (802.1s).Experience analyzing VLANs, spanning-tree, routing (both static and dynamic), ACLs, IP addressing, and subnetting.Proficiency with packet analysis tools such as Wireshark or Sniffers.Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance.Additional Skills & QualificationsNetwork development and integration experience with protocol standards like TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, DHCP, 802.1q tagging, multicast, PAgP or LACP (EtherChannel), QoS, and Active-Active technologies (vPC and IRF).Strong troubleshooting and problem identification skills.Familiarity with network device vendors such as Cisco and Arista.Knowledge of 1/10/25/40/100 Gig protocols, serial and satellite links, cable standards, and optical specifications.Familiarity with Linux OS, SNMP, Python is advantageous.Understanding of TCP/UDP protocol packet format.Knowledge of Software Defined Networking using OVS and Kubernetes is a plus.Work Environment

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, typically requiring three days in the lab and one day from home. The team operates on a flexible four-day workweek, with 10-hour days. While there is flexibility in the schedule, on-site presence is expected on workdays.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $70.00 - $90.00/hr.
