Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Network & Telecommunications Engineer to join our small, on-site IT team. This hands-on role involves managing the network infrastructure and telecommunications services to ensure performance, security, and availability. While the primary focus is networking and telephony, experience in desktop or server support would be beneficial. As the technical lead for network and telecoms, you will support both operational and project-based activities while mentoring IT team members to strengthen team capability and resilience.
Security Clearance (SC) eligibility is essential due to the nature of the work.
Key Responsibilities
Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco and Meraki switches, routers, and wireless infrastructure.
Monitor, manage, and implement secure configurations on firewall appliances.
Administer the Mitel VoIP phone system, including user setup, call routing, and diagnostics.
Conduct performance analysis and optimization of network infrastructure.
Provide 2nd and 3rd line support for network and telephony issues.
Lead technical implementation of network-related projects.
Take ownership of network/telephony incidents, especially during major outages.
Work with stakeholders and vendors to support infrastructure upgrades and deployments.
Assist the IT Manager in meeting service-level objectives.
Mentor service desk staff and encourage cross-training and knowledge sharing.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for systems, configurations, and procedures.
Essential Technical Skills & Experience
Cisco CCNA certification (minimum).
Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Meraki networking hardware.
Solid understanding of VLANs, routing protocols, ACLs, and firewall configurations.
Experience with Mitel VoIP systems or equivalent.
Proactive monitoring and performance tuning expertise.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across networking and telecom layers.
Knowledge of network security best practices.
Desirable Technical Skills & Qualifications
Cisco CCNP or equivalent advanced certifications
Knowledge of network segmentation, QoS, and SIP trunking
Proficient in using the Meraki Dashboard.
Experience configuring telephony QoS and IP-based voice services
Familiarity with ITIL processes and change management
Practical experience with Cisco Firewalls, Palo Alto, or equivalent firewalls
Strong understanding of Mitel telephony
Use of network monitoring tools
Exposure in supporting Microsoft Windows and Wintel environments
