Minimum Requirements (All Levels)
BS degree in a related field (or equivalent experience) Mid-Level: ~5–8 years of related experience Senior: ~8–10 years of related experience Lead: 10+ years of related experience (ideal: 20+ years) with demonstrated progression into leadership roles Proven experience supporting the design, validation, operation, and/or maintenance of complex system architectures Strong collaboration skills to work with engineering teams, operational stakeholders, and agency leadership Ability to perform in highly regulated, mission-critical environmentsRole Expectations by Level
Mid-Level NAS Systems Architect (~5–8 years)
Support the development, integration, and validation of NAS system architectures Document architecture requirements, designs, and performance specifications Conduct system analysis and provide recommendations for performance improvements Assist in troubleshooting and resolving architecture-related issues Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure design compliance and operational readinessSenior NAS Systems Architect (~8–10 years)
Lead architecture design and review sessions for major NAS initiatives Develop detailed system architecture documentation and technical roadmaps Coordinate with FAA stakeholders to align architecture with operational requirements Mentor junior architects and technical staff Drive performance optimization and innovation within existing systemsNAS Systems Architecture Lead / SME (10+ years; ideal 20+)
Direct architecture strategy and execution for large-scale FAA programs (1,000+ personnel impact) Lead teams of 20+ architects, engineers, and technical specialists Oversee the full lifecycle of NAS architecture design, validation, operation, and maintenance Act as primary liaison to FAA leadership, providing strategic recommendations and technical guidance Ensure architectures meet evolving mission, safety, and compliance requirementsPreferred Qualifications
Prior FAA or aviation systems experience (especially within NAS programs) Strong knowledge of FAA systems engineering processes and regulatory requirements Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks and tools Experience managing multi-site, cross-functional engineering teamsSecurity Clearance Requirement:
