Successful completion of a 2 year college diploma or certificate in the areas of Security, Law Enforcement, Police Foundations or equivalent.Certification from the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association of Ontario (MLEOA).Successful completion of Quantitative Noise training through an accredited body such as the MLEOA.Successful completion of the OAPSO certification or ability to obtain certifications.At least 3 years’ experience in a law-enforcement related field.Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Understanding and general knowledge of building construction. Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with the ability to diffuse emotionally charged situations.Strong communication skills including report writing, public relations, and the ability to deal authoritatively, but politely, with the public while utilizing de-escalation tactics as required.Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.Understanding and knowledge of By-laws including the Sign By-law for use in reviewing and processing of Sign applications.Adheres to a strict code of confidentiality, incidental to all section investigations.Familiarity with Courtroom procedure and decorum with an understanding of the Ontario Evidence Act.Ability to work a 10 hour day shift rotation that includes weekends.Ability to wear a town uniform and operate marked town vehicle.The successful candidate must hold and provide a copy of a valid and unrestricted Ontario Driver’s License Class G minimum with a driving record that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behaviour. Note: Applicants with 6 or more points are ineligible for consideration. The successful applicant, who is a new hire, will be required to provide the Corporation with a current driver's record (no older than 30 days) and pass a Town administered road test as a condition of employment.Successful candidates, who are new hires and/or who have not performed in this position previously will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check dated within the last 30 days as a condition of employment. Reporting to the Supervisor of Enforcement Services, the Municipal Standards Investigator proactively and reactively enforces by-laws and provincial legislation pertaining to a variety of town matters such as licensing, nuisances, noise, signs, municipal right of way, zoning and site alteration etc. and reviews/approves sign applications. The Municipal Standards Investigator identifies, investigates and responds to by-law violations, collects evidence and/or issues charges or penalties.
