MULTI-SKILLED TECHNICIAN (MECHANICAL) - SMD & FORKLIFT OPERATIONS

Position Overview
We are seeking a versatile Multi-Skilled Technician with mechanical expertise to support Secondary Manufacturing Department (SMD) operations and forklift fleet management at our manufacturing facilities. This role combines mechanical maintenance, equipment operations, and material handling responsibilities in a 24-hour manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Secondary Manufacturing Department (SMD) Operations
Provide mechanical maintenance support for SMD equipment operating 24 hours/shift operations
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on production machinery
Conduct equipment troubleshooting and emergency repairs during production shifts
Support continuous production operations with minimal downtime
Monitor equipment performance and implement reliability improvements
Forklift Operations & Maintenance
Operate various types of forklifts and material handling equipment safely and efficiently
Perform daily pre-operational inspections and safety checks
Conduct preventive maintenance on forklift fleet including hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems
Troubleshoot and repair forklift breakdowns and mechanical issues
Maintain accurate service records and maintenance schedules for all material handling equipment
Multi-Skilled Technical Support
Execute mechanical repairs across multiple equipment types and systems
Perform installations, modifications, and upgrades on production equipment
Support air conditioning, ventilation, and environmental control systems
Assist with water distribution, pumping systems, and utility maintenance
Provide technical support for mechanical tools
Operational Excellence
Work independently across different shifts with minimal supervision
Respond rapidly to production support requests and emergency breakdowns
Implement continuous improvement initiatives for equipment reliability
Support planned maintenance activities and shutdown procedures
Ensure compliance with production schedules and quality standards
Required Qualifications
Technical Qualifications
Technical qualification from German Training Institute, Advanced Training Institute (ATI), or reputable technical institute
NVQ Level 4 minimum competency preferred
Preferred: Valid Heavy Vehicle License
Preferred: Valid forklift operation certification from acceptable organization
Preferred: Qualifications in Hydraulics & Pneumatics systems
Preferred: Millwright certification or equivalent mechanical assembly expertise
Preferred: Lathe operation and precision machining qualifications
Multi-skilled competency in mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems
Experience Requirements
Minimum 3 years experience in mechanical maintenance in food processing or manufacturing plant
Proven experience in material handling equipment operations and maintenance
Experience working in 24/7 manufacturing operations and shift environments
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Experience with multiple equipment types and cross-functional responsibilities
Preferred: Hands-on experience with hydraulic and pneumatic system troubleshooting
Preferred: Millwright experience in equipment installation and alignment
Technical Skills
Proficiency in forklift operations (counterbalance, reach trucks, order pickers)
Mechanical troubleshooting and repair capabilities
Advanced: Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems design, installation, and repair
Advanced: Millwright skills including equipment alignment, bearing installation, and mechanical assembly
Basic electrical knowledge for equipment diagnostics
Ability to read technical manuals, blueprints, and maintenance procedures
Experience with precision measurement tools and torque specifications
Working Conditions
Schedule & Operations
Location: Secondary Manufacturing Department - 24 Hours/Shift Operations
Shift Work: Rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays
Overtime: Available with explicit management approval for specialized services
On-call Support: Emergency response capability for production issues
Material Handling: Continuous forklift operations supporting production flow
Safety & Compliance Requirements
Age between 21-60 years with sound physical and mental health
Annual medical examination including Full Blood Count, Total Cholesterol, FBS, UFR, Blood Pressure clearance
Additional medical tests for personnel over 35 years (ECG, S. Creatinine)
Mandatory PPE: Safety shoes, ear plugs, dust masks, high visibility jackets
Security clearance from Police Station and Grama Seva Niladhari
Adherence to lockout/tagout and confined space entry procedures
Performance Standards
Operational Metrics
100% forklift operation safety compliance with zero incidents
Timely response to production support requests within SMD operations
Accurate completion of preventive maintenance schedules
Proper documentation of all maintenance activities and equipment conditions
Continuous improvement in equipment uptime and reliability
Quality Standards
Compliance with Quality & Environmental Management Systems
Accurate record keeping for forklift inspections and maintenance
Adherence to work permit procedures for specialized maintenance
Zero safety violations and environmental incidents
Professional conduct and teamwork across all shifts
Tools & Equipment Responsibilities
Maintain personal tool kit meeting European Standards requirements
Operate company-provided forklifts and material handling equipment
Use specialized diagnostic and testing equipment for troubleshooting
Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of precision tools
Responsible for condition and security of assigned equipment
Reporting Structure
Direct Supervisor: SMD Manager / Engineering Manager
Coordination: Production Supervisors, Engineering Executives, Shift Leaders
Communication: Real-time reporting of equipment status and production issues
Training: Participation in technical development and safety programs
