SUMMARYUnder the direction of the Radiologist the MRI Technologist performs MRI procedures at a technical level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail Uses independent judgment ingenuity and acquired knowledge to obtain quality diagnostic images Assists with interventional proceduresCOMPETENCIESmiddot Must be fully knowledgeable of MRI exams and procedures and capable of performing exams independentlymiddot Complete working knowledge in the principles of physics anatomy medical terminology sterile technique and safety as it relates to MRI practicesmiddot Strong written and verbal communication with co workers and patients using the English language to communicate appropriately and clearly to team leader co workers and other members of the health care teammiddot Work cooperatively with department staff by sharing in taking rotational call and holiday hoursmiddot Occasional travel to other business sites is necessary to fulfill the responsibility of the positionmiddot Occasionally required to move objects over lbsESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES Performs all types of MRI scans and procedures with demonstrated competency Reviews each exam for technical accuracy Assures patientrsquos clinical data coincides with and matches the type of exam that is being ordered Followrsquos up with Doctorrsquos office when exam ordering is in question and does not seem reasonable given the patients clinical record Accurately completes computer Meditech patient procedure documentation Assures the accuracy of documentation understanding that all items will be charged to the patientrsquos hospital bill Submits correctly documented and labeled exam to the Radiologist and is available for review and discussion Follows department protocols with safety guidelines for screening anyone entering MRI area according to ACR MRI safety guidelines and the Joint Commission Follows through on all exams that may need to return for additional screening Demonstrates skill and required to perform IV insertion May be required to mentor new staff in educating them on workflow equipment and competency Reviews post instruction with the patient such as picking up filmsCD for follow up appointment andor if a hold up may occur with their results if waiting for outside films Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot electronic equipment including but not limited to scanners workstations and printers Independently runs onersquos own schedule and properly documents patient flow while remaining sensitive to patient care and other coworkerrsquos needs and desires Remains flexible in patient flow in order to accommodate daily emergency calls and requests for inpatient procedures Assists in obtaining transportation for patients when procedures are scheduled by internal Hospitalists Physicians etc Independently responds on a call basis to perform procedures Works at affiliates andor contracted locations to provide services as required Works cooperatively and always exhibits Core Values in order to accomplish all tasks as a member of the Medical Imaging Team Rotational call hours and holiday hours may be requiredWork whereevery
