The University of Miami Department of Psychology has an exciting opportunity for a part-time MRI Technologist in Coral Gables. The Department’s Neuroimaging Facility is the only research-dedicated MRI facility at the University. The facility is looking for an experienced MRI Technologist to work 1-2 Saturdays per month.
The MRI Technologist 2 performs intricate procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas, procedures and equipment. Moreover, an employee in this position performs diagnostic imaging examinations to facilitate the ability of physicians, radiologic technologists, and supervisors to find abnormalities and make a proper diagnosis.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Coordinates scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.
2. Performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.
3. Assists with the education and training of new physicians.
4. Assists radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols and Ultrasound imaging techniques that are unique to facility. Assists in research initiatives and development of research protocols.
5. Monitors charging of Ultrasound procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.
6. Demonstrates Ultrasound equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.
7. Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by physician. Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
8. Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband. Always obtains necessary consents and education.
9. Performs specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age appropriate standards of practice.
10. Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records and adapt exam as necessary. Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high quality standards. Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.
11. Assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
12. Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection and equipment disinfection).
13. Assists radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.
14. Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmit to PACS.
15. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent
Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program
Experience:
Minimum 3 years of relevant experience required
Certification and Licensing:
Valid State of Florida General Radiographer license required
ARRT registered with ARRT certification in primary modality
Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements
