Mountain Patrol addresses the safety of the mountain and guests by providing emergency care and attending to safety issues on the mountain.  

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Biking, Skiing or snowboarding to perform trail and mountain opening and closing procedures as assigned. As directed, patrol assigned patrol work areas regularly while consistently greeting and engaging guests to promote a fun, safe and friendly atmosphereHelp educate guests about mountain safety through active personal contactStop reckless skiers, snowboarders, bikers and enforceYour Responsibility Code/Mountain Biker’s ResponsibilityCode, Giants Ridge safety regulations and policies, including taking appropriate disciplinary action as neededAdminister emergency care/first aid/CPR when necessary
Safely and skillfully transport injured to patrol roomBe proficient with lift evacuation procedures and skills.Recognize and address existing and potential safety hazardsAs directed, perform daily trail maintenance including but not limited to marking trail openings and closures, placing/maintaining signage and fencing, and marking obstaclesUnderstand the function of the equipment used and standards procedures for its care and safe operationMaintain clean, safe and professional work areasDevelop and maintain appropriate reports and records as set forth by Giants Ridge patrol policy and proceduresMaintain communication with other departments

SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Proficient ski/snowboarding/mountain biking skillsHigh School Diploma/GED – 15 to 17 years old may be eligible for Young Adult Patroller programCPR/AED Certification requiredMinimum Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certified (Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or paramedic - must be able to successfully challenge OEC course material).Ability to demonstrate proficiency in biking/skiing or snowboardingAbility to proficiently handle patient transportation equipment. Demonstrated talent for interacting with a wide variety of peopleAbility to effectively organize and coordinate multiple prioritiesAbility to learn and develop new skillsAbility to problem solve.Strong communications skills, written and verbalExcellent customer service

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Moving about on foot, bike, or skis or snowboard to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the unit.Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.Lifting, carrying, and pushing up to 25 lbs. regularly, 30-35 lbs. frequently, and up to 200 lbs. with assistance occasionally.The ability to follow established policies and procedures when operating a snowmobile and/or UTV on the mountainAbility to withstand extreme cold, wet and hot weather for long periods of time.Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.Reading and writing work-related documents in English.Speech recognition and clarity, including the ability to understand the speech of customers and co-workers and the ability to speak clearly so that you can be understood by customers and co-workers in English.Constantly communicates and receives verbal communication with other employees in a fast-paced environment.Physical presence at the job site is essential to perform job duties.

Giants Ridge, managed by Guest Services, Inc., is looking for qualified individuals to join our Mountain Patrol Team this winter.  As a member of our Mountain Patrol Team, you will play an important role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our guests along with contributing to the integrity of our mountain operations.  Responsibilities include patrolling designated mountain areas on mountain skis or snowboard, assisting riders, enforcing safety regulations and responding to guest injuries.
