The Motorsports Tire Engineer will participate in the application and development of basic and advanced tire models that capture and quantify real world operating behaviors for motorsports applications.   Work will include the generation and fitting of tire models from lab data, scaling and validation of fits to achieve real world correlation, on-going development of the Pratt Miller Tire Plotter tool, and tire report generation.  This position will also include supporting Pratt & Miller clients with the execution and analysis of tire fits and tools to ensure accurate operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Parameterizing tire models with data available from lab tests and track testsAnalyzing flat-track tire data, outputs from tire models, and data from track and DiL (Driver-in-the-Loop) tests to evaluate correlation and prepare analysis reportsAttending lab, track, and DiL tire tests to collect and analyze data and perform on-site analysisWorking with Pratt Miller and customers to tune tire models for improved correlation in desktop simulations and DiL simulationsAssisting in the development of tire data analysis methods to support more confident vehicle tuningAssisting in on-going development of the Pratt Miller Tire Plotter toolAssisting in tire model development and improvements

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Desired Education

BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical or Automotive EngineeringAt least 2 years professional or academic experience in automotive engineering and simulation (motorsports preferred)Preferred background in vehicle dynamics

Desired Specialized Knowledge and Skills

Experience in tire data fitting from lab testing dataExperience in the analysis of tire data as it applies to tire selection and optimizing car performanceKnowledge of industry standard tire models and advanced modeling conceptsSolid vehicle/tire dynamics backgroundProficiency with numerical analysis methodsProficiency with utilizing Excel and MATLAB and/or PythonExperience in the development or application of software toolsets or utilitiesExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsAbility to work independently and move projects forward with little directionExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills for communicating with other Pratt & Miller Engineering team members and clientsAttention to detailDrive for qualityStrong work ethicTeam player

Pay Range:

$78,400.00 - $121,500.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
