Together, our community strives to create and maintain working and learning environments that are inclusive, equitable, and welcoming. **We have an outstanding opportunity for a** **Motor Equipment Mechanic Apprentice (Motor Equipment Mechanic Trade Trainee)** to perform semi-skilled work of graduated complexity in the repair and service of sedans, light-duty and mid-sized automotive vehicles in the Fleet Services Motor Equipment Mechanic Apprenticeship Program. As a trade trainee for the motorized equipment mechanic journey class, receive on-the-job and academic training to achieve journey status and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. **Primary Duties and Responsibilities** **On-the-job** **Shop Training** The apprentice shall receive on-the-job instruction and work experience as is necessary to become a qualified journey-level worker versed in the theory and practice of the occupation covered by these ASE standards. Under the guidance of journey-level mechanics, perform a minimum of 2,000 hours of reasonably continuous work as outlined below. **Primary Duties** + Under the guidance of a journey worker, perform various maintenance and repair duties, with special emphasis on those duties required to complete the specific on-the-job automotive mechanic trades apprenticeship program, including areas such as:  + Complete all assigned related supplemental instruction.  + Satisfactorily complete all assignments of the motorized equipment mechanic apprenticeship program.  + Track, log, and submit on-the-job-training hours as required by the apprenticeship program.  + Perform related duties as required.  **Related Supplemental Instruction (RSI)** + Successfully complete 144 hours of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) accredited distance learning courses. **Automotive Service Excellence Certification** + Successfully complete ASC Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification Test (G1 Series), **Core Competencies** + Demonstrate personal integrity and trustworthiness. + Manage stressful situations and changing priorities effectively. + Anticipate, recognize and resolve problems. + Be responsible and accountable. + Use organizational skills and provide attention to details. + Maintain a positive, optimistic, and success-oriented attitude. + Exercise professionalism, which includes being tactful and courteous. + Exhibit a professional work ethic. + Continuously promote a safe work environment. **Education & Experience** **Required** + High school graduation or equivalent; OR six months of experience as a Maintenance Aide, or equivalent. + Good customer service skills; computer or data entry experience. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. **Desired** + 2 years of experience in an automotive maintenance shop as a Mechanic Equipment Service Attendant. **Conditions of employment** + Steel Toe work shoes are required (at employer’s expense). + Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment. + Must be able to lift / move 50 pounds. + Must be able to work amongst exhaust fumes. + Demonstrate a strong mechanical aptitude. + Regular and predictable attendance is required. + Physical ability to perform the essential job functions in a safe manner with or without a reasonable accommodation. + Class B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsement or must obtain a Class B CDL with air brake and passenger endorsement upon completion of the apprenticeship program. + All applicable CDL requirements including a pre-employment drug screening apply to this position. + Must have a good driving record. Copy of DMV report may be requested. + Maintain passing grades or satisfactory evaluations in all RSI and on-the-job training components. + Demonstrated ability to continue education and training in automotive repair technology independently and as provided and directed by employer.
