About This Position:
The LA DOTD is responsible for conducting inventories and inspections of approximately 14,000 bridges throughout the state in accordance with the 23 USC, Subpart C, (The National Bridge Inspector Standards NBIS). Approximately 10,000 bridge inspections are performed each year in Louisiana. The field inspections are performed by 52 full time Bridge Inspectors assigned to the 9 LA DOTD Districts. The LA DOTD Headquarters Bridge Maintenance Section is responsible for establishing the implementing policies and procedures for the inventory and inspection of the bridges in Louisiana. The Federal Highway Administration oversees states are in compliance with 23 USC and if DOTD does not comply with these federal requirements, the DOTD will lose $100 million per year. Reviews in recent years have found Louisiana's quality control/quality assurance (QA/QC) efforts needing improvement. Legislation mandating Bridge Management Systems (23 USC Part 500) required that the LA DOTD completely revise its bridge inventory and inspection systems.
This position is responsible for operating and maintaining specialized under-bridge access equipment and personnel to adequately meet the demands required of the district bridge inspection activities, bridge maintenance, quality assurance inspection needs, and bridge load rating needs in order that the Department can maintain the required level of compliance to the NBIS.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Mobile Equipment Operation - Specialized under bridge inspection equipment, transport and operation of man-lifts, marsh buggy, air boats, etc. as necessary to fulfill the inspection requirements of the NBIS Department's Quality Assurance inspection Program and Load Rating Evaluations
+ Conducts periodic equipment maintenance as required for the specialized equipment, including periodic required inspections by manufacturer and equipment repairs as directed. Cleans and inspects assigned equipment daily. Obtain/maintains CDL as required by this position in accordance with PPM #25.
+ Attend required training in accordance with Department's structured training program as well as manufacturer's training for specialized equipment.
+ Order and maintain inventory of consumable parts as necessary to keep the equipment functional and in operation. Coordinate the assignment and movement of equipment to different locations throughout the state.
+ May be required to perform other duties as necessary.
