Loulo Gold Mine is seeking to recruit a Mine Foreman to join and grow our team. This role is responsible to lead and coordinate underground mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant achievement of production targets.

Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

Comply with Barrick’s established health and safety policies, procedures, practices and Occupational Health and Safety Acts.

Visibly practice safety leadership through leading by example.

Actively ensure a safe environment for yourself, your peers and local communities through regular communication and due diligence.

Promptly report and correct unsafe acts and conditions.

Actively ensure that fatal risks are understood and critical controls are maintained.

Ensure all mining activities adhere to mine safety regulations, company policies, and local laws.

Conduct workplace inspections to identify and mitigate hazards such as unstable ground, poor ventilation, and equipment malfunctions.

Investigate incidents, near misses, or equipment failures and reporting findings to management.

Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforcing safety protocols.

Shift Leadership & Workforce Management

Supervise and direct underground development, drill / blast and haulage crews.

Assign daily tasks based on the mine plan and ensure all activities are completed efficiently.

Monitor worker performance, provide coaching, and enforce company policies.

Conduct pre-shift meetings to discuss work plans, safety updates, and equipment status.

Production & Operational Oversight

Coordinate drilling, blasting, mucking, and haulage operations to maintain production targets.

Ensure proper use of mining equipment, including jumbo drills, LHDs, haul trucks and IT’s.

Troubleshoot operational challenges and make real-time decisions to keep production on track.

Equipment & Ground Control Management

Ensure ground support installation (rock bolts, shotcrete, wire mesh, etc.) is completed as per engineering standards.

Verify that ventilation, dewatering, and power systems are functioning correctly.

Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure all machinery is in working order and addressing breakdowns promptly.

Communication & Reporting

Liaise with mine managers, engineers, and other supervisors to align shift activities with overall mine planning.

Prepare shift reports detailing production progress, equipment status, safety incidents, and any operational challenges.

Communicate with incoming shift supervisors to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of operations.

Emergency Response & Problem-Solving

Lead emergency response efforts in case of accidents, fires, rockfalls, or ventilation failures.

Make quick, informed decisions to resolve unexpected issues underground.

Qualification Requirements

Relevant Mining qualification.

Experience and Skills Requirements

Minimum of 10 years’ underground mining experience.

Mining operations experience, including mine planning, mining equipment selection and performance, and contractor management.

Commitment to safety, including a commitment to a positive safety culture.

Exceptional leadership, organizational, communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

Must be team oriented and possess the ability to develop and foster a team environment.

Problem Solving, decision making and troubleshooting Skills.

Understanding of budgeting and performance management.
