Milk and Formula Coordinator-Part Time
**Job Description** Under the direction of the Director of Clinical Nutrition and Clinical Manager, is responsible for the organization of the Milk/Formula Room, including preparation, distribution, and inventory of human milk (HM), both donor and maternal HM, and specialized feedings for adult and pediatric patients. Specialized feedings include all infant, pediatric, and adult formulas and calorie concentrations that are not available as ready to feed. The Milk and Formula Coordinator conducts all aspects of milk/formula preparation and distribution under safe and sanitary conditions. Demonstrates effective communication and coordination of service between interdisciplinary team members and patient family/caregivers. Adheres to department and hospital philosophies, standards, objectives, and policies and procedures. **Qualifications** + Must have an Associate's Degree or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree and/or higher academic standing preferred. + Work experience, preferred; nutrition or food service experience a plus. Preferred previous nutrition education or experience working in a medical laboratory. Previous experience working in a milk or formula room, preferred + Infant feeding technician certification, preferred. Completion of required training and competency for formula and breast/donor milk preparation expected within 60 days of hire. Non-Bargaining Unit, M7D - MILK/FORMULA ROOM - MSH, Mount Sinai Hospital **Responsibilities** 1. Performs calculations, measurements, and conversions to appropriately prepare and fortify HM and specialty formulas with various calorie concentrations for patient feeding. 2. Responsible for intake of all HM (maternal and donor milk), including documentation of maternal milk received via barcode system and donor milk batch number, bottle number, and expiration date. 3. Thaws and labels bottles of HM. Ensures labeling of HM and formula are complete, accurate, and up-to-date per policy. 4. Delivers human milk and enteral products to hospital units as requested 5. Communicates with parents/caregivers and Milk/Formula Room colleagues regarding available on-site milk supply. 6. Communicates with appropriate nursing or nutrition staff for assistance with daily order changes and feeding order clarification. 7. Assists with inventory management and intake of breast milk, formula, and supplies. Restocks supplies and formulas. 8. Answers all phone calls/phone messages in a prompt and courteous manner. 9. Cleans work surfaces and equipment prior to HM and/or formula preparation, and between each individual patient milk preparation. 10. Sanitizes and stores bottles/parts. 11. Follows aseptic technique and infection control procedures per policy. 12. Stores prepared feedings in patient/unit refrigerators, monitoring expiration dates, and removing expired HM or formula, as indicated. 13. Ensures and documents proper storage times and temperatures for HM and formula at all times. 14. Exhibits professional demeanor, demonstrating effective communication with colleagues and supervisors (including sign out to covering staff to ensure continuity of care), and maintains a helpful attitude towards interdisciplinary team, hospital staff, patients, and families. 15. Participates in department in-services to maintain competency, and attends departmental meetings and staff development programs, as requested. 16. Compliant with hospital/regulatory guidelines and policies 17. Works rotating weekends and holidays. 18. The salary range for the role is $19.02 - $28.53 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
