Hours Worked: Monday through Friday, 1st shift, forty hours per week. However, must be flexible to meet the needs of the department and complete other projects as assigned. Position available for annual renewal upon review at listed end date.
Compensation Range: $21 - $25 an hour (e.g., the job posting is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, and actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as locations, education, experience, and skillset).
Position Summary:
The Microbiologist II is responsible for assisting the client with sample preparation, experimental assistance, and analysis needs for determining microbiological effect on Consumer Products from the Fabric & Home Care market. Cultures and test samples will routinely be prepped and analyzed using client-specific methods. Associate will culture a variety of micro-organisms, run client-specific methods for testing microbes on consumer products, analyze data, and report findings to client. Associate will support departmental needs/projects as assigned.

Support Microbiology R&D in a specialized group of researchers in Fabric & Home Care Lab Microbiological techniques: diluting, plating, counting colonies, culturing (via a variety of media and preparations), plate pouring, plate streaking, etc. Act as daily departmental Organism Prep associate. Maintain daily suspensions of bacterial, yeast, and molds for departmental testing needs. Prepare organisms to specific ODs, ensure pure culture, and provide both liquid and plate specimens. Maintain weekly monthly QC by MSID and pure culture streak. Maintain organism cryovial stocks. Order media for use. Microbiological efficacy testing of cleaning products via execution of client protocols, using both routine practices and client-specific methodology. Identification of organisms through routine means and identification via mass spectrometry (MSID) Assisting with DNA extractions, quantification, and sequencing projects Using robotics and automated microbiological platforms to execute client-specific procedures. Completion of daily tasks/tests and side work (test prep, data collection, input of data to ELN) in the expected timeframe, as defined by the client Escalation of troubleshooting needs and instrumentation issues to the client or ATL management Lab maintenance as necessary: lab deep cleans, media ordering, making stock solutions, stocking of consumable materials, proper storage of research materials, and organization of lab reagents. Daily calibrations of instrumentation as needed; logbook entries, reporting out-of-spec instrumentation to client sponsor Sterile handling of samples and understanding of aseptic technique Timely and accurate documentation of experimental notes, data, and results into various note booking systems (physical notebooks, logbooks, Sharepoint files, and Excel) Support other Microbiology Department research as needed, such as various lab methods/experiments/clinicals. Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and in the company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures. Comply with clients and company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies. Follows the guidelines set forth by clients and the company Quality Manual and Safety / Chemical Hygiene Plan. Other duties as defined by the Manager, department needs and workload.
Skills & Proficiencies:
Strong understanding of aseptic technique and basic laboratory skills desired, including pipetting, microbial culturing, creation of serial dilutions, etc. Open communication regarding status of samples, experiments, and instrumentation, with other team members and the client. Highly organized and great time management skills, must be comfortable coordinating work effort to support a group of scientists Flexibility for changing priorities as lab capability grows or as work focus shifts. Ability to learn quickly and function independently in the lab Willingness to work with other ATL colleagues or client employees in the lab Familiarity learning basic computer software (may be instrument-related); familiarity with Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, PwP, Outlook, Teams, etc.) Must have strong interpersonal skills such as communication, relationship building, and positive attitude Strong adherence and vigilance in regard to job safety standards Adheres to company values
Education and Experience:
Degree requirement: Bachelor's Degree in microbiology, biology or closely related field Previous industry experience preferred but not required Previous experience working in BSL-2 lab preferred but not required
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
