Microbiologist (Lab Technician)
The role of Laboratory Technician involves competently performing all assigned departmental duties, including pre-analytical tasks such as receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing. The technician will engage in highly complex microbiological testing on a variety of samples, including donor, environmental, raw material, and biologic product samples. Key tasks include conducting microbial culture, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques, culturing tissue samples with aseptic techniques, and reading and interpreting microbial growth on plates.
Responsibilities
+ Perform pre-analytical tasks, including receipt, qualification, and preparation of samples for testing.
+ Conduct microbial culture, isolation, and identification using standard microbiological techniques.
+ Culture tissue samples using aseptic techniques.
+ Read and interpret microbial growth on plates and perform isolation plating.
+ Adhere to cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) and other regulatory requirements applicable to microbiological testing.
+ Evaluate test results accurately and timely, and report unusual test results.
+ Operate equipment utilizing established protocols and within quality control limits.
+ Recognize equipment malfunctions and/or technical problems and take appropriate steps to resolve.
+ Maintain strict adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
+ Prepare and maintain reports/records and perform computer data entry.
+ Maintain departmental supplies within established inventory levels.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or Molecular Biology from an accredited college or university.
+ At least one year of experience in a Microbiology laboratory.
+ Working knowledge of regulatory/quality requirements.
+ Ability to perform within all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and policies.
+ Strong knowledge of microbiological techniques, including aseptic technique, microbial culture, identification, and enumeration methods.
+ Capability to evaluate, interpret, and report accurate/valid test results.
+ Competency in laboratory skills for liquid and material handling.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Prefer two or more years of microbiology experience.
+ Knowledge of GLP, GDP, and tissue samples.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $28.00/hr.
