This critical leadership role ensures compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, with particular emphasis on The Joint Commission's standards for the Environment of Care (EC), Life Safety (LS), and Emergency Management (EM). The position also demands a high level of expertise in National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, OSHA regulations, hazardous materials management, and workplace safety. This position will work closely with hospital leadership, clinical departments, and external regulatory agencies to create and maintain a safe and compliant environment for staff, patients, and visitors. **Essential Functions of the Role** + Oversee **Environment of Care (EC)** and **Emergency Management (EM)** programs at assigned hospitals and ensure alignment with organizational priorities and regulatory requirements. + Collaborate with hospital administrators and leadership teams to improve safety outcomes. + Serve as the hospital’s **subject matter expert on environmental health and safety regulations** . + Advise leadership on regulatory changes and ensure proactive updates to policies and practices. + Serve as **chair of the multidisciplinary Environment of Care Committee** . + Serve as the **hospital Safety Officer** to analyze and improve the safety environment. + Lead the **Environment of Care (EC) and Life Safety (LS) portions of The Joint Commission survey process** to support accreditation and licensing. + Monitor and drive compliance with regulatory agencies including: + The Joint Commission (TJC) + National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) + Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) + Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) + Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) + Other applicable regulations + Direct the **safe and compliant management of hazardous materials, chemicals, and waste** within the hospital. + Ensure compliance with **OSHA Hazard Communication Standard and environmental guidelines** . + Implement and operationalize **training programs for the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP),** including: + Disaster response + Evacuation protocols + Command center operations + Provide oversight for **life safety and environmental compliance in construction and renovation projects** . + Ensure compliance with **Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM)** and infection control requirements during construction. + Perform **HR-related activities** , including: + Interviewing candidates + Hiring recommendations + Employee orientation + Performance evaluations + Coaching and team development + Assisting with disciplinary actions when needed **Key Success Factors** + Thorough working knowledge of: + The Joint Commission EC, LS, and EM standards + NFPA codes + OSHA regulations + Texas DSHS regulations + CMS requirements + Other applicable regulations + Strong **written and verbal communication skills** . + Ability to **collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams** . + Strong **analytical and critical thinking skills** . + Ability to **solve problems efficiently and effectively** . + Fundamental knowledge of **emergency management principles in healthcare facilities** . + Ability to **manage projects from start to completion** . + Ability to **lead process improvement initiatives** . + Proficiency with **basic technology and Microsoft Office programs** . **Belonging Statement** We believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported. **QUALIFICATIONS** + **Education:** + Bachelor’s degree **or** + 4 years of work experience above the minimum requirement + **Experience:** + Minimum **2 years of experience** + **Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations** _(Preferred but not required)_ + Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM) + Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) + Certified Safety Professional (CSP) + Healthcare Environmental Manager (HEM) + Associate Safety Professional (ASP) As a health care system committed to improving the health of those we serve, we are asking our employees to model the same behaviours that we promote to our patients.
