Metrology Mechanical Engineer

Crestron Electronics is seeking a detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in metrology and electronics. This role supports the precision and quality of our smart technology products through advanced measurement systems, calibration, and integration of mechanical and electronic systems.

Key Responsibilities

Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and Statistics. Support department inspectors in Smartscope, CMM inspection, use of Data Bases and general inspection tools and techniques. Ability to design and generate detailed drawings using CAD for part holding fixtures used on the Vision Systems SmartScopes and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines). Update and maintain the department Statistical Data Base and data collection software. Support Engineering Department on new product development. Interfaces with cross-functional teams from other departments as needed to ensure quality requirements are understood and met. Coordinates quality requirements with cross functional teams. Assure that quality requirements are understood and attainable. Works with Manufacturing Engineering, Tooling, Engineering, Design and Manufacturing to assist in developing PFMEA's, Process Flow Charts, and Inspection Control Plans and statistical capability. Interpret blueprints and specifications related to geometric tolerancing, gauging, statistical requirements and related specifications. Assist training inspectors in methods, statistics and geometric tolerancing. Develop inspection plans and methods including fixture and gage design. Familiar with First Articles process to validate that the first article, or a sample from the first production run from a supplier, conforms to all specified requirements, including design, engineering standards, and customer expectations. Will perform other duties as assigned by management. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new product introductions (NPI) and ensure manufacturability vs supplier capabilities. Develop and execute calibration procedures for metrology equipment. Analyze measurement data to identify trends and support root cause analysis. Conduct inspections and measurements to ensure compliance with internal and external quality standards. Support audits and contribute to the development of metrology protocols and documentation. Recommend and implement improvements to measurement processes and equipment. Excellent project management skills, with the ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities effectively, while delivering quality work on time.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or related field. 5+ years of experience in metrology and electronics within a manufacturing or product testing environment and Mechanical Inspection. Must be proficient in blueprint interpretation, geometric tolerance and statistics. Must have good general computer skills. Proficiency in Excel a plus. Requires verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information to people of various degrees of ability. Must be organized and detail oriented. Familiarity with ISO and ANSI standards related to metrology and electronics. Must have general knowledge and training in the principles related to metals or resins. Requires working knowledge of various types of measuring equipment and data collection systems. Specifically vision Systems and CMM Basic knowledge of manufacturing operations.
