Job DescriptionSUMMARY
The Metrology Engineer & IMT Coordinator is a dual-responsibility role critical to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of all measurement processes and equipment within the organization. This individual will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining metrological standards, procedures, and systems, as well as coordinating the calibration, maintenance, and tracking of all inspection, measuring, and test (IMT) equipment. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of metrology principles, measurement systems analysis (MSA), and quality management systems, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to precision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Metrology Engineering:
Measurement System Design & Optimization:Design, develop, and implement advanced measurement techniques and systems for various products and processes.Evaluate and select appropriate metrology equipment and technologies based on technical requirements, accuracy needs, and cost-effectiveness.Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure metrology considerations are integrated early in product development.Measurement System Analysis (MSA):Conduct Gauge R&R (Repeatability & Reproducibility) studies and other MSA techniques to assess the accuracy, precision, and stability of measurement systems.Identify and implement improvements to reduce measurement error and improve data reliability.Train personnel on proper measurement techniques and MSA principles.Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis:Investigate and resolve measurement discrepancies, anomalies, and equipment failures.Perform root cause analysis for recurring measurement issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.Standards & Procedures:Develop and maintain metrology-related procedures, work instructions, and best practices in accordance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ISO 9001).Ensure compliance with national and international metrology standards.New Technology & Continuous Improvement:Stay abreast of new metrology technologies, software, and industry trends.Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in measurement processes and equipment utilization.Technical Support & Training:Provide expert technical support and guidance to manufacturing, quality, and engineering teams on measurement-related issues.Develop and deliver training programs on metrology principles, equipment operation, and MSA.IMT Coordinator:
Calibration Program Management:Establish, implement, and maintain a comprehensive calibration program for all IMT equipment, both internal and external.Develop and manage calibration schedules, ensuring timely and accurate calibration of all instruments.Maintain detailed calibration records, certificates, and histories in a structured database or system.Equipment Management:Oversee the inventory, procurement, and disposition of all IMT equipment.Coordinate with suppliers for the purchase, repair, and servicing of equipment.Ensure proper storage, handling, and environmental control for sensitive IMT equipment.Non-Conforming Equipment:Identify, quarantine, and manage non-conforming or out-of-calibration IMT equipment.Initiate investigations into the impact of non-conforming equipment on product quality and implement necessary actions.System & Documentation:Maintain and update the IMT equipment tracking system/database (e.g., CMMS, specialized calibration software).Generate reports on calibration status, equipment utilization, and upcoming calibration requirements.Ensure all IMT documentation is accurate, complete, and readily accessible for audits.Audits & Compliance:Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits related to IMT equipment and calibration processes.Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, Aerospace, Automotive) and internal quality standards.Budget Management:Assist in the development and management of the IMT equipment and calibration budget.QualificationsEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Education:Bachelor's degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.Master's degree or certifications in Metrology are a plus.Experience:[3-5]+ years of progressive experience in a Metrology Engineer role.[2-3]+ years of experience specifically coordinating IMT equipment calibration and management.Experience in, automotive, precision manufacturing is highly desirable.Qualifications/Competency:

ESSENTIAL SKILLS and ABILITIES
Technical Skills:Proficiency with various metrology instruments (e.g., CMMs, optical comparators, laser trackers, calipers, micrometers, profilometers, vision systems).Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).Expertise in Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA), including Gauge R&R studies.Familiarity with calibration standards (e.g., ISO 17025, ANSI Z540.1).Experience with calibration management software (e.g., IndySoft, GageTrak, Prolink, etc.).Proficiency in statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP) is a plus.Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.Soft Skills:Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.Strong organizational and project management skills.Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.Strong training and presentation skills.Proactive and self-motivated with a continuous improvement mindset.Working Conditions:
Primarily office environment with regular presence on the manufacturing floor.May require occasional lifting of up to [25-50] pounds.Potential for occasional travel to supplier sites or external calibration labs.Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Must have the ability to work in an office and manufacturing assembly environment, which could include sitting or standing for the majority of the day. The positions requires the ability to stand/walk for up to 2 hours at a time.
