**Job Summary:**
As the **Metrology Engineer (Prototype Build)** , you will help develop Trane Technologies HVAC Compressor products in the Engineering R&D Laboratory prototype shop. Your position encompasses many functions of the prototype shop: verify quality of prototype parts, perform advanced coordinate measurement data collection, interpretation and analyses, program and operate measurement systems, manage inspection scheduling and equipment calibration intervals. Your role is crucial to ensure the highest level of prototype quality & interpretation, advancing prototype measurement technology development and advising on design for manufacturability topics from the measurement perspective during the design phase. As the Metrology Engineer, you will work in a safety‑focused, hands‑on laboratory R&D environment where you will collaborate with a team to solve complex technical challenges. In this role, you can develop into a technical leader in dimensional and surface metrology, providing expert guidance in this specialized field and strengthening the link between measurement and manufacturing.
**Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):**
+ Support HVAC Compressor product development in the R&D laboratory prototype model shop.
+ Own CMM/inspection capability and ensure equipment have necessary functions/reliability to produce quality data appropriate for the feature tolerances.
+ Knowledgeable of contributing factors to measurement variation and able to minimize the influence of these factors on measurement results when possible.
+ Own and certify data quality from the CMM/inspection facility.
+ Software programming and data analyses & technical interpretation\presentation of results.
+ Responsible for managing measurement schedules and deliverables.
+ Interpret a machined part drawing and determine the setup, inspection method and program to provide accurate and repeatable inspection results that meet the engineering design intent.
+ Effectively work with machinists, CMM operators, and design engineers to ensure inspection results are provided to meet expectations.
+ Provide Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing measurement results, advice and interpret both inspection and engineering design feedback.
+ Responsible for continually advancing CMM/inspection throughput without sacrificing quality.
+ Continually grow knowledge on advanced CMM/inspection equipment, software programming and data analyses.
+ Develop and maintain the CMM/inspection technology roadmap for the needs of the business for foreseeable growth.
+ Some overnight travel is required, including international (approx. 5%).
**Minimum Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences and exposure to quality engineering or CMM/inspection is required.

+ Experience programming in common prototype part‑inspection software platforms is preferred.
+ Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Proven ability to think creatively and implement efficiency improvements.
+ Hands‑on experience with optical measurement systems.
+ Experience operating Cartesian CMMs.
+ Skilled in setting up measurement processes using hand gauges, including situations requiring dedicated fixtures.
+ Proficient in surface profilometer measurements, including informed selection of stylus tips and filtering options.
**Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range:**
$56,800.00 - $80,604.99
