Are you an ambitious reporter looking for an opportunity to tell unique stories and hold power to account in two of the nation’s most interesting and consequential cities? The San Francisco Chronicle has an opening for a versatile journalist to cover Oakland, Berkeley and Alameda County, focusing on a variety of subjects including economic development, public safety, housing and homelessness.

The candidate will track Mayor Barbara Lee’s effort to revitalize Oakland after its pandemic struggles, write about tensions in Berkeley — town vs. gown, NIMBY vs. YIMBY — and develop enterprise pieces and profiles that illuminate the East Bay’s most interesting and influential residents.
