The Grader Sorter role in Portland, Maine is essential in maintaining efficient and safe operations within the scrap yard. Reporting to the Stockpiling Supervisor, JP Operations Supervisor, or Terminal Operations Manager, the Grader Sorter is responsible for general physical labor tasks, including the use of hand and power tools, yard maintenance, and assisting other personnel. This position demands a strong understanding of machinery and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. This is a full-time position with a flexible schedule and the opportunity for overtime, including optional Saturdays.
 

Grader Sorter Qualifications:

High School diploma, GED Certification, or equivalent experience in a similar role preferred

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance

Ability to sit rarely; stand and walk frequently on uneven ground

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds consistently

Must possess arm-hand steadiness and visual acuity for close detail work

Work independently with attention to detail and continuous awareness
 

Grader Sorter Responsibilities:

Strictly adhere to all Health, Safety, and Environmental standards

Provide a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors

Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities

Work with equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials

Load, unload, identify materials, machinery, or tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations

Provide backup or assistance throughout the yard as needed or assigned

Report all equipment deficiencies or malfunctions to the proper supervisor
 

Grader Sorter Details:

Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:00 pm, with 4 hours of overtime per week and optional Saturdays

Pay Rate: $20.50 per hour

Environment: This position is exposed to all weather conditions, with physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt. Safety shoes, hearing protection, and other PPE must be worn as required
