Metallurgist - Powder Metal
PURPOSE:
Seeking Metallurgist to provide a diversified range of technical services to internal and external customers supporting the attainment of Company, Team, and Division goals. Experience in a lean manufacturing environment strongly preferred. Commitment to following and promoting zero-accident safety culture required. Although primary responsibilities are in support of the Princeton KY facility, some additional responsibilities may be required to support Worcester MA and/or Brighton MI.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Dispositions referred, non-conforming and off-standard materialsProvides training and education to customersApplies statistical methods to solve problems and design experimentsAssists in the use of SPC, six-sigma and/or BPI tools to detect project inefficienciesDevelops processing for new productsReviews customer inquiries and specifications for new productsProvides support, leadership, and guidance to peers, customers, and managers in key projectsPerforms all other duties, tasks, and special projects as assigned
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year college degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field-Associate degree and/or equivalent experience as determined by department management would also be considered1-7 years of experience working in a metallurgical capacity, preferably in a powder metal manufacturing environment. Must have experience providing support on a production floor. Specialized knowledge of metallurgical principles, standards, methods, and practicesSpecialized knowledge of metallurgical and production equipmentUnderstanding of the application of statistics, six sigma and BPI practicesAbility to access mill and manufacturing areasExperience leading, supporting and participating on project teams
Ability to provide mentorship to internal resources as requested within functional areaProven customer service skills with the ability to assist internal and external customersStrong communication skills—written and verbal with the ability to listen intentlyAbility to deliver results on-scheduleAbility to recognize and communicate technical risksProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel)
