Medication Specialist (Women's RRS)

We are looking for innovative staff for our licensed Substance Abuse Treatment programs, which are open to both veterans and the community. Our programs provide client-centered care and recovery-oriented treatment within a therapeutic environment. \n

Under the general supervision of the Program Manager the Medication Specialist is responsible for the oversight, storage, and coordination of self-administration of medication. \n

WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DAY TO DAY:\n\nObserve and support residents in taking medications as prescribed.\nDirectly connect residents with providers and prescribers to initiate or continue medications.\nWork with pharmacies and providers to coordinate refills and prevent interruptions in treatment.\nAssist with lab samples and facilitate provider communication as needed.\nMonitor medication adherence and notify Program Director, Clinical Director, or designee of any concerns.\nMaintain accurate records of medications stored, administered, returned, or disposed of.\nTrack medications in the possession of residents and the program, ensuring proper custody.\nEnsure safe return or release of medications at discharge.\nDispose of expired or discontinued medications in compliance with BSAS, state, and federal regulations.\nWitness and document medication disposal on a regular schedule.\nEnsure the medication refrigerator is in working condition and temperatures are recorded daily.\nCheck and replace expired facility-supplied medications, including first aid kits and naloxone (Narcan) rescue kits.\nMaintain and organize the medication storage area.\nStock the medication room with required supplies (cups, counting trays, spatulas, etc.) and ensure supplies are cleaned regularly.\nOrient new residents to the program's medication policies and procedures.\nCoordinate annual naloxone training for staff and ongoing education on medication management, including scheduling external trainers as needed.\nDocument all medication-related activities accurately and timely.\nReport medication errors, incidents, or concerns to supervisors and regulatory authorities (BSAS and others) as required.\nParticipate in audits, compliance reviews, and technical assistance provided by BSAS or partner agencies.\n \n\n

WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:\n\nMinimum of high school diploma or GED. \nMinimum of 2 years of experience in substance abuse treatment.\nMedical assistant certification or MAP Certified\nMust be able to successfully pass a CORI\/Background records check.\nMust be willing to submit to and successfully pass a drug test.\nCompliance with Veterans Inc. COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. Religious and Medical Exemptions are considered.\n\n
