Job Overview:
The Medical Technologist Point of Care POC is responsible for supporting the coordination, implementation, and ongoing quality oversight of the POC testing program across Monmouth and Monmouth South campuses, including affiliated off-site locations. This is a working bench position that involves both technical responsibilities and active participation in the day-to-day management and support of POC testing under the direction of the POC Supervisor. The technologist ensures regulatory compliance, staff training, quality control, instrument verification, and result integrity across all testing sites. Additional tasks can be assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor, Manager, and Director.

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field requiredASCP or equivalent certification as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsPreferred:
Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience; experience in POCT preferredStrong knowledge of CAP, CLIA, and Joint Commission requirements for POCTScheduling Requirements:
Day ShiftFull-TimeMust be available to work, weekends, and holidays on a rotating scheduleScheduled days and shift may vary based on department needs; no fixed schedule is guaranteedMust be able to travel between Monmouth and Monmouth South campuses and affiliated off-site POC testing locationsEssential Functions:
Perform and validate point-of-care testing POCT in accordance with hospital policies, manufacturer guidelines, and CAP and CLIA regulationsServe as a key liaison for POC operations across all supported areas, including inpatient units, ambulatory care, and satellite officesProvide technical bench coverage as needed at both Monmouth and Monmouth South laboratoriesSupport the POC Supervisor in monitoring QC trends, corrective actions, and maintaining regulatory documentationAssist in coordinating competency assessments, new test implementation, and staff training for nursing and ancillary personnel performing POCTParticipate in audits, inspections, and the preparation of documentation for regulatory agencies such as CAP, CLIA, DOHConduct routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality assurance for all POC instrumentationCollaborate with clinical and nursing leadership to promote proper POCT utilization and complianceMaintain records of instrument validations, lot-to-lot reagent checks, and linearity/precision studiesProvide coverage during absences and work weekends or holidays when necessary to ensure continuity of POC servicesPerforms all testing as per standard operating proceduresPerforms bench work in all trained areasAbility to keep up with and maintain desired turn-around timesServes as a resource person for technical questions and problem resolutionTroubleshoots problem specimens and interacts with medical staff and hospital staff, as necessaryAssists in training and orienting new lab employees, hospital employees and studentsQuality Control is performed and documented as scheduled in the same manner as patient samples, resolving all QC failures with immediate corrective action, documentation and notification to the supervisor, or designeePerforms proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples and is completed on time and accurately documentedEnsures integrity and appropriate use of all IT systemsUtilizes the Information Systems and interfaces to accurately enter or modify reacquisitions, enter or edit patient results, enter result or order comments, enter QC results, provide corrective action for QC failure, verify completion of tests assigned to a bench, monitor testing turn-around times and look up resultsEnsures all instruments have been properly calibrated, maintenance procedures performed and scheduled quality control completed and documented prior to analysis of patient samplesInstitutes take immediate action when performance is unacceptableTroubleshoots testing issues as applicableCommunicated problems/issues to the supervisor or designeeEnsures the Medical Director or designee are communicated to appropriately, as necessaryProvides oversight of technical operations in the absence of the supervisor, as neededDemonstrates leadership skills as evidenced from co-workers and exit interviews of employeesDuring stressful or frustrating conditions, must be able to solve problems and be understanding and supportive of other peopleAccepts constructive feedback and criticism appropriatelyPromotes excellence within the section and effectively develops staffBenefits and Perks:
