Summary :The Medical Staff Services Specialist is responsible for credentialing physicians and other healthcare professionals, managing meetings, resolving issues and complaints, ensuring healthcare providers adhere to quality regulations and policies, maintaining credentials, and other related duties. Serves as a liaison between hospital administration and the medical staff. Establishes and maintains good communication and rapport among healthcare disciplines, and is responsible for the development of positive working relationships. Maintains a working knowledge of medical staff bylaws, policies/procedures, and rules/regulations, and works to ensure medical staff compliance.Job Description:WORK SCHEDULE:

8:00am – 4:00pm some early starts or late days due to meeting (1 or 2 a month)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Ensures the credentialing of applicants for membership and reappointment to the medical staff is coordinated accurately and timely in compliance with defined schedules. Coordinates efforts of medical staff, administration, outside credentialing agencies, and regulatory agencies.
Facilitates medical staff standing committees and ad hoc and special committee meetings. Consults with respective department/committee chairs and hospital team members to achieve outcomes ensuring that problems identified are either acted upon or appropriately referred. Demonstrates excellent communication in preparation of agenda, participation in meetings, and follow-up actions.
Records conclusions and recommendations succinctly and accurately to substantiate actions taken. Maintains and protects the confidential records of proceedings that may be required in subsequent internal investigations and/or external legal disputes.
Interprets, explains, and follows regulatory guidelines including medical staff bylaws, fair hearing plan, rules and regulations, and policies.
Provides support to medical staff leaders relevant to the medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations by making suggestions for changes to meet regulatory compliance such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), as well as acting as the subject matter resource for the credentialing standards of the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
Participates with regulatory accreditation surveys. Interacts with surveyors to demonstrate compliance with standards to achieve accreditation.
Communicates and develops relationships with key medical staff leaders, medical staff members, and credentialed/privileged allied health staff.
Demonstrates leadership skills by providing expertise in the area of credentialing and privileging. Assists in the coordination of the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE).
Assists in the coordination of the daily activities of the medical staff office and responds quickly to resolve operational situations.
Monitors and revises credentialing and privileging forms and functions as needed to ensure consistency and in accordance with regulatory agency guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate’s degree in a healthcare related field
Three years of experience with medical staff administration and credentialing principle
CPCS or CPMSM certification, or must achieve certification within in one year of reaching eligibility to sit for the certification exam as defined by the NAMSS Certification Council
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the facility
