Job SummaryThe Medical Scribe works with a physician as they see patients. The Scribe provides real-time charting by shadowing the physician. Tasks include recording the patient's history and complaints, transcribing the physical exam, ordering x-rays, and recording test results. They also coordinate with departmental resources about tests, orders, radiology, and results. The Scribe may perform patient care duties under the supervision of Nursing or other medical staff.
Essential Functions of the RoleAccompanies the physician into the patient examination room to transcribe a history and physical exam. Documents the physician's encounter with the patient and details any procedures performed.Lists all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow-up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.Records details of physical exam, including pertinent positives and negatives, noting abnormalities and patient general condition.Adheres to HIPAA laws.Records details of chief complaint, history of present illness, and review of systems. Includes past medical history, social history, and family medical history. Notes disease risk factors, medications, and allergies.Transcribes and facilitates patient orders, including lab tests, radiology tests, medications, and referrals. Submits orders as desired by the medical provider. Checks constantly for results of those orders.If orders are not completed in a timely fashion or if results are incomplete, troubleshoots for causes and solutions.Performs some patient care duties for the department, as requested.Key Success FactorsCertified Medical Assistant preferred.Knowledge of medical terminology.Requires knowledge of HIPAA laws.Excellent computer skills.Impeccable verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.Exceptional attention to detail.Excellent bedside manner.Organizational skills with a focus on tracking patient care and improving patient flow.Belonging StatementWe believe that all people should feel welcomed, valued and supported.
Qualifications
High school or equivalent education.Experience not required, but less than one year experience preferred.
