Medical Laboratory Technician
**Job Summary** **Essential Duties and Responsibilities** Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following: + Work under the supervision of a medical technologist or physician to perform tests that help physicians diagnose and treat diseases + The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests + Follows laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintain records of patient results + Follows necessary QA/QC requirements for a COLA laboratory + Performs routine Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis testing + Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential on normal and abnormal smears + Processes samples for send out and reflex laboratory testing + Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year + Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e. bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedures) + Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques + Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies + Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results + Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining certification requirements + Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation + Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations + Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols + Maintains patient confidence and protects the company by keeping information confidential per HIPAA regulations + Other duties as assigned **Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Must be comfortable with manual differential testing and performing venipunctures + Must be comfortable with Clinical Lab Testing, Chemistry Techniques, and Analyzing Information + Experience with reading Microscopic UA + Experience with Manual Differentials + Must be comfortable with Equipment Maintenance + Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases + Must be a team player with great communication **Required Education and Experience** + Associate's degree in MLT + ASCP certification as an MLT + Minimum of 1+ years of experience as a Med Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Scientist Documentation Skills + Hematology/Core Lab/Phlebotomy experience is preferred **Why Join Us?** At NEXT Oncology (an Avacare Business), you’ll be part of a mission-driven team that values collaboration, precision, and patient safety.
