To strengthen our Medical Affairs department we are looking for a talented profile to fill the position of: Medical Excellence Lead – Milan, Italy.
About the role
The main mission is to drive Medical Excellence across the Italian organization, with the responsibility of ensuring operational excellence and aligning medical activities with the company’s objectives, accelerating the translation of insights into impact, and measurably improving outcomes for patients and the healthcare system. This role acts as a strategic enabler for therapeutic area medical plans by embedding best-in-class medical capabilities, promoting data-driven decision-making, and fostering responsible, AI-augmented ways of working. Additionally, the position serves as deputy and back-up to the Head of Medical Affairs Italy.
You will work with
The Medical Excellence Lead will work closely with Therapeutic Area Heads, Medical Strategy Leads, regional and global teams, and various internal departments such as commercial, legal, regulatory, supply, and compliance. Collaboration also includes the Clearance Team, the Governance Specialist and more in general the medical affairs Team to ensure alignment, training, and the effective deployment of medical excellence initiatives across the organization.
What you will do
Medical Excellence & Strategic Enablement
Define and evolve the Medical Excellence framework (processes, standards, toolkits) to raise the quality of scientific engagement, evidence strategy, medical communication, and field executionDigital, Omnichannel & AI Enablement
Scale responsible use of AI to increase medical impact, including literature intelligence and other toolsBuild AI fluency across Medical Medical Capability
Serve as the Local Medical Capability Excellence Manager, working in coordination with Regional and Global teams and in close collaboration with the Therapeutic Areas.Training and supporting staff on country pharma association codes and other, relevant per role, medical governance policies and proceduresCross-Functional Leadership
Collaborate closely with internal cross-functional teams, medical, commercial, legal, quality,supply and compliance, to ensure alignment and provide guidance as needed.Collaborate with the Global Medical Team ensuring alignment with UCB’s standardsWork closely with the Clearance Team and other Medical Affairs teams to maximize synergies.Light-Touch Governance (Right-Sized)
Maintain fit-for-purpose governance by design: simplify workflows, remove bottlenecks, and ensure proactive quality checks embedded in processes.

Medical degree or an education in a relevant scientific disciplineA minimum of three years’ experience in comparable positions or within multinational environments in the medical sectorExcellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in English and ItalianProven ability to routinely leverage digital tools, including AI, to enhance performance and the quality of one’s workComprehensive understanding of medical science, pharmaceutical products, and therapeutic areas relevant to UCBStrong scientific background and expertise in medical affairs, with the ability to ensure Medical excellence in all the activitiesFamiliarity with local and international laws and regulatory requirements, including transparency and disclosure regulationsUnderstanding of patient needs and the ability to ensure patient-centric approaches in medical operationsAbility to identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to medical governance and operationsSkills in managing projects, including digitalization and optimization initiativesStrong analytical skills to identify issues and develop effective solutionsDemonstrated capability in staff training and supportCollaborative team member with proven strong teamwork abilities
