Medical Director Cancer Institute Summary:

The Medical Director will work part-time administrative hours and part-time clinical hours.

Serves as the physician responsible for creating and implementing the strategic and clinical priorities of BayCare’s Cancer Institute aligning it with BayCare Health System’s strategic plan, mission, vision, and values. Works with key stakeholders across the system to improve care across the continuum, reduce clinical variation, eliminate unnecessary clinical services utilization, and promote evidence-based practice. Partners with the CMO of Clinical Institutes, VP Clinical Institutes and CMO of BMG as well as other key leaders to set Cancer Institute vision, goals, and objectives and monitor performance in support of organizational priorities. Works with the Cancer Institute operational and clinical leaders to determine and recommend locations of service, Comprehensive Care Centers, specialty specific physician and APP needs planning, recruitment, retention and alignment, necessary clinical governance, and design Cancer Institute specific growth plans to meet organizational needs. In support of transformation priorities, is responsible for oversight and performance of relevant Cancer Institute care pathways and standardizing Institute specific clinical services (supply chain, pharmacy, imaging, etc.) to reduce costs and improve value. Manages subcommittees, subgroups, collaboratives, and steering committee meetings and supports interdisciplinary teams and system leadership to ensure operational success. Additionally, is responsible for working with medical staff across the system to develop and implement policies and procedures to achieve the health system and medical staff's mutual interests and responsibility for quality assurance, appropriate utilization review, process improvement, and clinical performance. Will also participate in graduate medical education to mentor and develop faculty and support cancer-related clinical research initiatives. In partnership with CI operational leaders, develops and monitors appropriate operational efficiency. Additionally, will establish performance domain standards pertaining to clinical outcomes and patient experience. Fosters strong working relationships with leaders across the System and creates, articulates, and executes operational plans and objectives in support of the Institute’s priorities.

Minimum Qualifications:


Required Licensure

Florida Medical License within 6 months of hire. Residency or fellowship training in an oncology-related specialty with board certification. Executive Leadership experience may include up to 2 years Medical Staff President and/or BayCare Director/CMO. Preferred experience: 8-10 years of Institute Medical Director or similar Medical Staff Leadership and medical education experience.
