Medical Assistant- Urology

Job Description Summary: 

Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks that are vital to patient care. Medical Assistants must adhere to all relevant regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality. They are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism and compassion during all interactions.

We’re Looking For: 

High School Diploma or GED required.   

Must have a medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or be a certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience, to qualify. 

Phlebotomy skills are preferred. 

 

 

What You’ll Do: 

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:00a-4:30p; Wednesday 8:30a-5p; no weekends

As a Medical Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in the care team – supporting providers, connecting with patients, and helping ensure a seamless, compassionate experience every day.   

As a key member of the ambulatory care team, you will:  

Welcome patients and support their transition into care.  

Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.  

Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.  

Administer medications and vaccines as directed.  

Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.  

Document care accurately in the electronic health record.  

Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.

Our urologists care for the entire urological system including the urinary tract, kidneys, prostate and bladder. These providers are experts in urology-related disorders and conditions such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones, erectile dysfunction, enlarged prostate, prostatitis and other prostate problems, as well as bladder problems and urinary incontinence. They also perform prostate surgery and advanced no-scalpel vasectomy and vasectomy reversal procedures.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions 

Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.  

Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.  

Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.  

Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.  

Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.  

Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.  

May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste as well as blood and body fluids and communicable disease. Therefore, protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.  

Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.  

Physical Abilities Testing may be required.  

Additional department specific physical requirements may be identified for unique responsibilities within the department by the nurse leader.
