Cleveland Clinic’s Occupational Health Department works to promote the healthiest, safest and most optimal work environment for Cleveland Clinic caregivers. Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Occupational Health, Florida, the Medical Assistant will utilize medical and administrative skills to provide support for the Expanded Drug Testing (EDT) and Respiratory Fit Testing program. This role is integral to supporting the occupational health and safety compliance programming and supports the Cleveland Clinic mission & vision priority of caregiver care and value of safety. 

 

 

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:30AM – 4:00PM, with the ability to travel within the entire Florida market. 

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

Maintain an excellent working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 40 DOT drug testing procedures and DOT certification for specimen collections per regulations. 

Facilitate the collection of urine specimens from employees. 

Follow departmental policies to correctly identify the employee before any specimen is obtained. 

Properly label and document the specimens for processing and transfer specimens to assigned laboratories. 

Communicate all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate Manager, Supervisor or Group Leader. 

Follow Universal Precautions and all OSHA standards when handling specimens. 

Perform respiratory fit testing and training (baseline and annually). 

Instruct caregivers in respirator purpose and limitations, inspection, cleaning, maintenance and storage of respirators. 

Inspect, assemble and perform daily quality control checks of fit testing equipment/supplies and training respirators. 

Maintain qualifications for conducting fit testing. 

Document fit testing data into the Occupational Health electronic health record. 

Strictly adhere to HIPAA guidelines. 

Order processing and office supplies and stock and re-stock as needed. 

Submit accurate time, travel, expense and collection logs in a timely manner. 

Help with department related clerical duties as needed. 

 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

High School Diploma or GED  

Graduate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program OR Military training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered 

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within new hire period. 

One year of recent work experience as a Medical Assistant 

Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience 

Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within the entire Flordia market 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:   

Medical Assisting Certification 

Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic Externship 

Two years of experience in respiratory fit testing 

Working knowledge of all types of commonly used respirators, including N-95 and power air purifying respirators (PAPR)

Physical Requirements:

Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.

May require extended periods of standing, walking, or sitting.

Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.

Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.

Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
