Medical Assistant - Registered

Job Summary:

The Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) works under the delegation of a licensed practitioner (e.g., RN, APC, MD/DO) to perform duties as directed to assist in providing patient care to assigned patients.                                                                                                        

Essential Functions:

Demonstrate competency and perform only the medical tasks listed on the current Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner as defined in RCW 18.360.010. Perform duties delegated by and under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner in accordance with RCW 18.360.050 (4). Delegated duties are specific to the unit / department and may include: Maintaining medication and immunization records Screening and following up on test results as directed by a health care practitioner. Diagnostic testing and electrocardiography. Waived laboratory testing under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments. Administering eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines, including combination or multidose vaccines. Medication administration according to a written order from the Healthcare Practitioner for drugs that are: Administered only by unit or single dosage, or by a dosage calculated and verified by a health care practitioner. Limited to legend drugs, vaccines, and Schedule III through V controlled substances as authorized by a health care practitioner under the scope of his or her license. Administer medication for intramuscular injections. Administer intramuscular injections for diagnostic or therapeutic agents under the immediate supervision of the Healthcare Practitioner only minimum established standards are met. Responsible for completing and submitting an updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to the Washington State Department of Health within 30 days of any changes made to delegated duties or supervision of a healthcare practitioner. Responsible for sending a copy of any updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement as well as written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources. 

 

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or an equivalent combination of coursework, experience/training.

Training & Experience:

1 year - Medical assistant experience in a clinic setting.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Requirements:

Submission of the Medical Assistant – Registered Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement with the Washington Department of Health within 7 days of the start date. Copy of Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to Human Resources.
  Active Washington Medical Assistant Registration within 60 days of hire Copy of written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.
  Completion of all assigned unit/department specific checklists, including applicable CLIA competencies, supervised by a Healthcare Practitioner within 60 days of hire.  Copy of all checklists and competencies to Human Resources. Current BLS certification required.   Benefit Information and Wage Transparancy:  WhidbeyHealth Employees who work a 0.5 FTE or higher are categorized as, “benefit eligible”.
