Acts as a key resource to the Diabetic team/Primary care sites for the management of Diabetic DME, prescriptions, testing, and medication management to ensure that they receive the required testing and medical management to promote optimal health and clinical outcomes.
Facilitates appointment scheduling, telephone outreach and patient education. Coordinates the distribution of patient reminder letters on behalf of the specialist.
Perform Practice Assistant duties: verification of demographic information and fiscal data. Schedules, reschedules and cancels appointments making every effort to accommodate patient and provider needs. Obtains and enters referrals. Prepare and maintain medical records.
Identifies and resolves OSHA compliance issues, audits and maintains point of care testing and tracks test results. Participates in practice improvement initiatives. The MA may participate in small projects under the direction of the Manager or Designee.
Support practice in an administrative clinical capacity by working with Nurse and Medical Assistant team to streamline workflows.
**Job Description:**
+ **Location:** This is a primarily remote position with the possibility of working in person as needed for coverage needs only.
**Essential Responsibilities:**
+ Prior authorizations for diabetes and GLP-1 weight management medications and DME supplies.
+ Diabetes supply ordering through DME suppliers for CGM's and insulin pumps.
+ Review records, gather and prep necessary documentations to support Auth requests for insurance coverage.
+ Track and follow up on progress of Prior Auth/supply order requests
+ Appeal denied Prior auth requests
+ Communicate with both providers and patients regarding PA/DME orders.
+ Triage/assist with patient phone calls and portal messages
+ Pharmacy and patient medication refill requests
+ Go through and assist with the daily fax files for Needham/Wayland/Dedham
+ Manage and maintain the Diabetic Management pool
+ Educate and inform coworkers of insurance coverage guidelines, updated insurance policies and formulary changes
+ Downloading pumps, meters and sensors.
**Required Qualifications:**
High School diploma or GED required.
Certificate 1 Medical Assistant Certificate required.
1-3 years related work experience required.
Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
1-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting.
