**Responsibilities**
  
  
At Mayo Clinic's Family Medicine department, Medical Assistants (MAs) play a vital role in patient care and clinic operations. We are seeking dedicated professionals eager to utilize their full range of clinical and administrative skills.  Medical Assistants in our clinics operate with a degree of independence, while also consistently collaborating with Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and Registered Nurses (RNs) who oversee daily clinic operations. We hire MAs to operate at the full extent of their scope, maximizing their clinical and administrative skills within their designated roles. While we encourage continuous skill development, MAs are generally not cross-trained to work across different departments, allowing for focused expertise within their primary role.  At Family Medicine, Medical Assistants are empowered to utilize their full range of skills, operating at the top of their scope to support patient care and clinical operations. **Key Responsibilities:**
  
Patient rooming and preparation.
  
Conducting virtual visits.
  
Providing crucial support to providers during a variety of specialized procedures, including IUD insertions, Pap smears, and biopsies.
  
Managing in-basket messages as appropriate.
  
Completing provider-related documentation and administrative tasks.
  
Stocking exam rooms and monitoring expiration dates.
  
  
Important Note: Patient check-ins and scheduling are handled by dedicated administrative departments, allowing our Medical Assistants to focus on clinical and direct patient support.
  
  
**Qualifications**
  
  
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Graduate from a Medical Assistant diploma  **or**  associate degree program  **or**  hold an active Medical Assistant certification (CMA), or registration (RMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) certification. Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Active Medical Assistant certification (CMA), or registration (RMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) is preferred.
  
  
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer proficiency required, including prior experience with electronic medical record systems. Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
