Job Description
As a Medical Assistant, you will perform a variety of clinical tasks to support patient care, including taking medical histories, recording vital signs, and explaining treatment procedures to patients. You will collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests on the premises. Additional responsibilities include disposing of contaminated supplies, sterilizing medical instruments, and preparing examination rooms. You will also instruct patients about medications and special diets, authorize drug refills as directed, and communicate prescriptions to pharmacies. Duties may vary according to state law.
ResponsibilitiesTake medical histories and record vital signs.Explain treatment procedures to patients.Collect and prepare laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory tests.Dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments.Arrange and prepare examining room instruments and equipment.Clean and organize waiting and examining rooms.Instruct patients about medications and special diets.Authorize drug refills as directed and telephone prescriptions to a pharmacy.Prepare patients for x-rays.Essential SkillsProficiency in medical assisting.Experience with electronic health records.Completion of high school diploma or GED.At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant or hospital experience.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a pediatric healthcare setting is a plus.Work Environment
This position operates in a professional medical environment with a schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, with the possibility of staying until 5:30 PM on some days. No weekends or holidays are required. The role involves floating between Hartford, East Hartford, Farmington, and Glastonbury, with schedules provided well in advance.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr.
