The Compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience. Job Overview: The Cardiac Service Medical Assistant, is responsible for working alongside Physicians, NP s and PA s for a variety of patient care, technical and clerical related functions. The Medical Assistant is responsible for the delivery of quality patient services, office communication, information storage, clinic patient flow by assisting members of the patient care team and providing a broad range of health care services. They will assist with vital signs, weight-ins, preparations for examinations and/or treatment and will provide secretarial and receptionist support. This role contributes to the successful operation of the work area and functions in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Qualifications: Required: + Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent GED + At least six 6 months to one 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience + Must have a Nationally Certified Medical Assistant or Registered Medical Assistant certification through AMT, NHA, NCCT, AAA, NCMA, AMCA or NAHP or qualify and obtain certification within 60 days of hire + BLS required Preferred: + Previous medical assistant experience or background preferred + Bachelor Degree from a recognized college or secretarial school + Experience preferred with patient scheduling; EPIC a plus Scheduling Requirements + FT + Days Responsibilities: + Assists with front office and back-office duties + Greeting patients and family members + Displays respectful and caring attitude towards patients at all times + Function at the highest level of customer service, compassion and professionalism to internal and external patients and customers + Measures and records patients vital signs such as temperature, blood pressure, oxygen and pulse + Performs continuous rounds and check-ins throughout their shift to ensure APP s, patient and family needs are met + Scheduling appointments for diagnostic testing, Cardiac Surgery and Structural Heart cases + Submission of precert requests to the auth team for scheduled cases and diagnostic procedures + Preparation of patient disability paperwork + Data entry into clinic trackers + Taking patients for testing as needed + Send medical records and follow up to referring MD s + Completes assigned tasks with minimum supervision while maintaining a high degree of confidentiality + Assist with Heart Failure Clinic + Room turnover and supply checks + Answers telephone in a professional and efficient manner + Directs all clinical calls to a nurse or physician while documenting phone messages accurately with the correct time, date and person calling with the reason of the call + Confirms all patient appointments + Daily preparation of patient charts for physician consultation and exam in accordance with clinic policies + Filing of charts + Participates in and completes all mandatory and unit-based competency performance evaluations as required by the department and the institution + Responsible for secure desk coverage when duties require absence from patient area + Upon receipt of diagnostic results, pulls charts and presents to clinical team + Performs other related duties as assigned RWJBarnabas Health is an Equal Opportunity Employer
