Magee - Women's Hospital is looking for a full-time Medical Assistant, Sr. to join their OP Oncology team! This role will work Monday through Friday from 8am-4:30pm. No weekends or holidays required! _*Hours are subject to change based on business needs._
Our outpatient oncology unit is dedicated to providing compassionate, patient-centered care, specializing in the treatment of Breast and Gynecological cancers while focusing on enhancing the overall quality of life for our patients. **Purpose:**
Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, serves as lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Provide guidance and delegate tasks to clinical staff to ensure efficient workflow.
+ Support management with supervisory duties and team oversight.
+ Contribute to the development and implementation of departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
+ Mentor, train, and orient new and existing staff to maintain high performance standards.
+ Serve as the department’s Epic Care super user, offering expertise and support.
+ Collaborate with the Manager to identify and implement improvements in clinical and non-clinical operations, infection control protocols, and patient assessment procedures.
+ Lead routine staff meetings to communicate updates and procedural changes that enhance service quality and patient safety.
+ Demonstrate proficiency in all tasks specific to the practice category.
+ Manage the exchange of patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and applicable state and federal regulations.
+ Retrieve lab results, imaging reports, hospital documentation, and referral information.
+ Complete necessary forms and requisitions accurately and promptly.
+ Schedule patient appointments and verify insurance coverage and demographic information.
+ Prepare and maintain patient charts, ensuring all documentation is complete and properly filed.
+ Perform front office duties as needed to support daily operations.
+ Prepare exam rooms and set up instruments and equipment according to departmental protocols.
+ Clean exam rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to uphold infection control standards.
+ Follow scheduled maintenance procedures and maintain appropriate cleaning records.
+ Monitor and restock supplies to ensure exam and procedure rooms are adequately equipped.
+ Organize patient flow and manage daily schedules efficiently.
+ Escort patients to exam rooms and assist with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
+ Collect patient history, vital signs, and perform screenings per provider guidelines.
+ Communicate provider instructions to patients and families clearly and accurately.
+ Provide individualized patient education and supportive counseling as needed.
+ Answer phone calls and deliver relevant information, including patient education, as directed.
+ Administer injectable medications and vaccines under physician supervision.
+ Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one laboratory tests.
+ Assist with clinical procedures in accordance with established policies.
+ Document patient information accurately in the medical record.
+ Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, CLIA, Pennsylvania Department of Health).
+ Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records and sensitive data.
+ Adhere to all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
+ High school diploma or equivalent is required AND
+ Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT)
+ OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA)
+ OR at least 1 year of patient care experience required.
+ 2+ years patient care experience preferred
+ Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category specific tasks.
+ Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
**Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
