Medical Assistant, Expert
**Hours: Daylight Hours / Weekend Availability Required** **UPMC offers a robust career ladder, with titles ranging from Medical Assistant through Medical Assistant Expert. Title and Rate of Pay will be based on Education and Experience. Starting hourly rate of pay for a Medical Assistant is 18.40.** **A Medical Assistant, Expert assists physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, serves as lead person for team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.** **Responsibilities:** + Collaborates with care teams to improve patient access, reduce ER visits, and lower readmission rates. + Conducts telephonic outreach post-discharge to schedule follow-ups and review care plans. + Coordinates referrals, identifies care plan discrepancies, and supports gap closure efforts. + Provides health education and promotes wellness, self-management, and health literacy using motivational interviewing. + Demonstrates clinical proficiency and guides workflow; supervises and trains staff. + Serves as Epic Care super user; supports departmental goals and process improvements. + Manages medical records, schedules, insurance verification, and front office duties in compliance with HIPAA. + Prepares and maintains exam rooms and equipment per infection control protocols. + Assists with patient flow, vitals, screenings, and clinical procedures including phlebotomy and EKGs. + Administers medications and vaccines under physician supervision. + Ensures compliance with OSHA, CLIA, PA DOH, and UPMC policies. + Leads staff meetings to communicate procedural updates and enhance patient safety. + High school diploma or equivalent is required. + Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, + or equivalent hospital program + or Successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience + or Two years of direct patient care experience required. + Successfully complete the UPMC preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members. + Previous Pediatric and Outpatient Experience preferred. + Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:** + In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted. + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) + Act 31 / Act 33 / Act 34 / Act 73 with renewal **UPMC is an Equal Opportunity Employer/Disability/Veteran**
