Media Manager

The role is primarily responsible for developing and overseeing the media (digital and traditional) strategy for our Africa markets, in collaboration with our media agencies, media partners, Brand and Commercial Teams. The role will aid in creating measurable and increasingly efficient Data Smart media strategies and action plans.

To be successful in the role, you’ll deliver on the following:

Ensure the transparency and visibility of all media investments managed by our media agencies and partners, on behalf of PR SA (TV, online, print, outdoor, other media) across Africa (excluding Nigeria)Developing and managing Connection Plans to efficiently reach and engage our key target audiences and occasions with the right message on the right channels at the right timeMonitor on a constant basis the performance of our media investments:Bring upfront, in the organization, a true vision and Strategy for media within Pernod Ricard Africa and lead the strategic conversations with Brand TeamsEntering into deals and negotiations with media publishers through the agency when relevant for cost savings and/or access to exclusivity/innovation across media channelsEnsuring Pernod Ricard Africa is taking advantage of the Global media deals where relevantDefining, in collaboration with the PR Brand Teams, strong and added value media strategies/briefs that can then be articulated and implemented by media agencies and partnersManage flow plans across all brands and ensuring the right level of investment is allocated per campaign

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Media Vision and Ambassadorship

The Media Manager will be responsible of defining the Media vision for the Pernod Ricard Africa organization, being a strong ambassador internally and actively training Brand Teams: from core documents and processes (media briefings and training plans) to strategic activation planning (required media thresholds for marketing activations).

Landscape Changes and Education

Awareness of material changes or emerging brands in the media landscapeEnsure relevant marketing team members are informed of media developmentsTraining for brand teams and other internal parties on the ways of media working and future of mediaA good understanding of the South African media landscape, with thorough understanding of Sub-Saharan media landscape is necessary for this roleHelps to educate and assist Brand teams regarding media principles and best practices, plan KPIs and reporting, legal regulations, emerging new technologies and platforms and communication of all media-related efforts.

Media Strategy and Media Planning

Responsible for the oversight and execution of media strategies and media plans across the Pernod Ricard Africa portfolio. Lead key internal and external processes for all paid media including digital media planning, buying, budget management, reporting and measurement needsOverseeing media strategy, plans and campaigns briefed and rolled out across SA and SSA, ensuring media principles are adhered to and briefs are aligned to outputs across the continentCampaign strategies as well as brand media strategies are to be created with the media agency and presented to the brand and other stakeholders for alignmentConsumer data and consumer audience planning skills will be key to succeed – this is needed to ensure audience data is built in 1st party formats, as well as key collaboration with other data providers to build robust audience profiles for better targetingThroughout the media planning and buying stages, the Media Manager is to help lead the Communications/Media agency – providing value and counsel to Brand Teams and other internal teams. 

Collaboration

Collaboration across the following teams:

Consumer Insights, driving data driven audience insights into consumer planningManage the overarching Campaign Media ecosystem, integrating Search, CRM and eCom into the planning and execution of marketing and channel initiativesWork with content and social media agencies to ensure that the right content is delivered for amplification across identified media touchpointsAgency and HQ – ensuring tracking, data collection and all GDPR and related GDP compliance is adhered toAWARE.ORG and internal bodies are adhered toCommercial teams – ensuring media and consumer journeys are seamlessly integrated into the media for Off and On-Trade, as well as media planning briefs received from commercial team are adhered to in collaboration with off-trade business partners

Media Efficiency and Media Effectiveness

Responsible for consolidating and challenging the media performance of every activation, on a weekly and monthly basis, with a clear focus on how optimization, measurements and marketing/business impacts on consumersReporting on efficiency and negotiations on a weekly and monthly basis to the businessEnsure all global media deals relevant to the business are capitalised on, and entered into, ensuring contracts are signed with correct legal stipulation

Budget Management

Management of budget with Brand Teams ensuring budget aligns with finance business partnerManagement of budget with media agency ensuring briefings are accurate to budget and media plans align with spend for the yearEnsuring finance direct communication between marketing teams and wider business on savings and other related issues

Agency Management

Ensuring agency management with Head of Procurement / legal partners internal to Pernod RicardManaging agency across Africa with brand and other team requirements

This position works under the leadership of the Marketing Acceleration Director, but ensures close alignment & coordination across Brand teams, Consumer Insights teams, Digital Team and with select roles in the broader organization (i.e. other Digital functions at PRHQ, global Brand companies), and external partners (i.e. Media Agency, Data Marketing Agency) as needed.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements and Work Experience:

Relevant degree (or equivalent) in marketing and or business managementAt least six years’ experience in media agency and/or client side in media/advertising teamExperience working on BIG brands across multiple geographiesUnderstanding of alcohol advertising (and restrictions) across multiple marketsKnowledge of Consumer Protection Policies across multiple markets

Having worked with Agency media tools, Google Studio / Meta Business Manager / DatoRama / Chase / Tablea / etc.
