Job Description

AECOM’s Buildings + Places team is seeking an Intermediate Mechanical Technologist (Tech III) to support the design and delivery of mechanical building systems across a wide range of projects, including healthcare, municipal, institutional, industrial, and commercial facilities.

This position is intended for a technologist with solid technical grounding, growing independence, and the ability to take ownership of portions of mechanical design work within multidisciplinary teams. This is a new role for the team.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Design & Drafting

Develop mechanical design drawings and models for HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, controls, and fire protection systems using AutoCAD and Revit.Prepare equipment layouts, details, schematics, and coordination drawings.Assist with or perform basic mechanical calculations (airflow, pipe sizing, equipment capacities).Maintain drawing/document standards, ensuring consistency with AECOM templates and quality procedures.

Design Coordination

Coordinate with architecture, structural, electrical, and specialty engineering groups to resolve design interfaces.Participate in internal review cycles and incorporate direction from senior technologists and engineers.Communicate design issues clearly and help drive solutions across disciplines.

Construction Support

Assist in reviewing shop drawings, product data, and other submittals for conformance with design intent.Support responses to RFIs and revisions to drawings during construction.Attend site visits to collect measurements, verify installations, and document existing conditions.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or related discipline + four (4) years  of relevant experienceProficient with AutoCAD; intermediate proficiency in Revit MEP preferred.Understanding of mechanical systems design (HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, fire protection).Familiarity with Manitoba Building/Plumbing Codes and applicable mechanical standards.Ability to work semi-independently under the guidance of senior technologists and engineers.Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to prioritize tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

5–8 years of experience as a Mechanical Technologist/Technician in building mechanical systems.Experience supporting multidisciplinary project teams on medium- to large-scale buildings.Experience preparing coordination models and resolving clashes.Exposure to construction administration tasks such as field reviews and deficiency documentation.Experience with specification editing or equipment schedule development.

Additional InformationPeriodic travel to project and construction sites within Manitoba; occasional interprovincial travel for coordination.Relocation is not available for this position.Sponsorship is not available for this position.
