**Overview**
Mechanical Technician (DETO-2025-23358):
Bowhead seeks a Mechanical Technician to provide services and support to NSWCDD. The position is located onsite at Dahlgren, VA, in support of projects throughout E10 and E50 at NSWCDD. Duties include but are not limited to support for research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) of complex naval systems. These technicians work closely with engineers, scientists, and test teams on both developmental and fielded technologies.

**Responsibilities**
Duties include but are not limited to support for research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) of complex naval systems. These technicians work closely with engineers, scientists, and test teams on both developmental and fielded technologies.
+ Assemble mechanical components, test fixtures, and prototype systems from blueprints or engineering drawings.
+ Perform modifications and rework of mechanical hardware.
+ Use of machine shop tools and equipment (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, saws, forklifts).
+ Set up and execute mechanical tests (shock, vibration, thermal, etc.).
+ Install sensors, data acquisition systems, and test instrumentation.
+ Support field testing of weapon systems or subsystems (potentially including live-fire events).
+ Maintain and troubleshoot mechanical systems and test equipment.
+ Perform preventive maintenance on lab or field hardware.
+ Diagnose mechanical issues and support root cause analysis.
+ Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and procedures.
+ Maintain test logs, calibration records, and equipment usage documentation.
+ Provide feedback to engineers and document test outcomes.
+ Follow NAVSEA/NSWCDD safety procedures and participate in safety briefings.
+ Ensure compliance with quality control, security, and environmental protocols.
+ Work alongside electrical technicians, engineers, and program teams.
+ Support integration of mechanical components with electrical or software systems.
+ Participate in planning meetings, system readiness reviews, and debrief.
**Qualifications**
+ Five (5) years’ experience in mechanical enclosures and structures, plumbing, diesel generators, hardware assembly and machining parts.
+ Demonstrated experience in setting up and conducting laboratory and field tests.
+ Ability to work independently and interface professionally with other government agencies, contractors, military personnel.
+ Ability to define task details, estimates, and schedules.
+ Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.
+ Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate output data and concepts simply and concisely for senior leaders.
+ Forklift certified.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must have and be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. Candidates with an active DoD security clearance are required. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
Physical Demands:
+ Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
+ Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
+ Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
