Background/Context:
The IRC has operated in Syria since 2012, providing protection, health, economic recovery, and early childhood development programs in Idleb, Aleppo, Ar-Raqqa, Hassakeh, and Deir ez-Zor, with new programs expanding into Hama, rural Damascus, and Homs. With a team of over 750 members, the IRC has established trust and strong community relationships, ensuring access and effective service delivery. It plays a significant role in Syria’s NGO, donor, and coordination forums, holding key positions and adapting to the evolving context.
With the new realities under the new government, as of December 2024, the IRC has deployed a team to Damascus to set up operations and engage in coordination structures for newly accessible areas across Syria—including parts of NES, NWS, and other previously unreachable locations in South and Central Syria, adjusting operations to maximize coverage and efficiency.
Job overview:
Generator Handyman assistantwill be responsible for taking care of generators installed at all IRC offices, guest houses, pharma warehouses both at Hassaka and all field locations. She/He will fix day-to-day issues making sure that all generators are functioning correctly. She/He will make and follow-up periodic service schedule for all generators under the supervision of Fleet officer. In addition, position holder will be responsible to fix faults related to electrical wirings and addressing other maintenance issues at all IRC premises.
Generator Handyman assistantis the person responsible for general maintenance and repairs within the organization, in Hassaka and all other field locations. Performs a variety of tasks that require multiple technical skills to keep buildings and facilities in good condition and efficient operation. TheGenerator Handyman assistantduties include damage assessment, minor and complex repairs, maintenance of small appliances and equipment, and installation of new furniture and appliances.
Responsibilities:
+ Develop and maintain list of generators used at all IRC locations.
+ Develop severe chart and schedule visits to service generators.
+ Manage fuel stock and maintain fuel level for all generators at Hassakeh, Raqqa, and Deir ez-Zor
+ Ensure that log-books for generators are maintained and information given in log books is correct.
+ Ensure that log sheet record for all generators is filed in sequential order to produce auditors when required.
+ Ensure spares or materials lists are compiled in good time for work assigned (e) Ensure having adequate hand tools to carry out duties.

+ Implement and direct IRC standard and procedures with particular attention to safety and security issues.

+ Perform load testing on units to identify possible problems and prevent wet stacking.
+ Damage and malfunction assessment: Inspection of buildings and facilities to identify possible damage and problems that need to be repaired.
+ Repairs and maintenance: Perform minor maintenance work such as restoration, painting, and replacement of damaged parts to keep the facilities in good condition.
+ Maintenance of appliances: maintenance and repair of small appliances and equipment such as taps, electrical, and household appliances.
+ Installation and installation: Installation and installation of new furniture and appliances and ensure their proper functioning.
+ Records Management: Documenting all the work done and recording the time spent and the materials used accurately.
+ Inventory management: Monitor the stock level of materials and tools necessary for maintenance work and prepare a list of required materials.
+ Emergency Management: Provide emergency support such as water leakage or power outages to reduce negative impacts.
+ Communication and coordination: Dealing with maintenance requests from employees and coordinating with management to ensure that work is completed effectively.
+ Safety: Adhere to safety standards while performing work and ensure their application to maintain a safe working environment.
+ Reports: Communicate with management on maintenance issues and provide periodic reports on completed maintenance work and related problems.
+ Maintenance Improvement: Advising on maintenance improvements and upgrades that can be applied to improve facility efficiency.
+ Conduct automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators
Qualifications
Education:
+ Completion of the secondary education
Work Experience:
+ Minimum one year's experience in maintenance and repairs Generator, both within institutions and in the home environment.
+ Ability to handle a variety of types of maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, paints and fittings
